To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Asus realizza un portatile da ufficio sottile e leggero da 15,6" con l'X510UA-BR305T. Un processore Core i3 della generazione Kaby Lake alimenta il portatile. La CPU ha potenza a sufficienza per le finalità (ufficio, internet). Il portatile si scalda poco sotto carico e resta silenzioso in idle.

I vantaggi dell'X510UA rispetto ai rivali sono l'esterno sottile e il peso contenuto.

Unitamente alla buona autonomia, Asus a creato un compagno davvero mobile. Tuttavia, il portatile non è adatto in modo particolare a chi scrive quando è in giro. La tastiera non è per gli scrittori accaniti.

Lo schermo non vince alcun premio. Asus, usa un modello scuro, con contrasto basso e angoli di visuale limitati. Oltre questo, un SSD e non un HDD è indicato per un portatile leggero e mobile. Questo ridurebbe di qualche grammo il peso e il sistema sarebbe più veloce.

La realizzazione di un portatile sottile e leggero da 15,6" per il settore low-cost è un'ottima idea. Tuttavia, Asus deve ripensare qualcosa. Le pecche ci sono nella configurazione (tastiera, schermo, manca l'SSD) e dovrebbero essere migliorate nel successore. Anche il case dovrebbe essere più robusto. Dopo tutto, parliamo di un portatile da 600-Euro (~$705) e non un modello da 400-Euro (~$470).
