Scommessa su un clickpad dal design strano. I portatili del settore educativo devono essere robusti ed economici. L'Acer TravelMate Spin B1 risponde a queste esigenze, ma guardandolo da vicino ci sono molte pecche.

I tempi di risposta del display mostrano quanto sia veloce lo schermo a cambaire da un colore all'altro. Tempi di risposta lenti poccono creare sovrapposizioni negloi oggetti in movimento. Specialmente i giocatori patiti del 3D dovrebbero usare uno schermo con rempi di risposta bassi.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

L'Acer TravelMate Spin B1 non è un convertibile mainstream, ma un portatile progettato appositamente per il settore educativo. Considerato il target, Acer ha fatto bene poche cose. Gli studenti hanno bisogno di un case robusto e lo Spin B1 lo è. Un display luminoso è altrettanto utile e con 290 cd/m², il TravelMate va bene - specialmente se paragonato alla concorrenza. In aggiunta, il display è un touchscreen e supporta la penna, cosa utile in questo settore. Il TravelMate è raffreddato passivamente, quindi non c'è una ventola. Le scuole sfruttano l'hardware più a lungo rispetto alle aziende o agli utenti privati, quindi la longevità è molto importante.

Ci sono alcune cose che potrebbero migliorare. Il display è luminoso e sorprendentemente colorato, ma è riflettente - e pensiamo che almeno un pannello semiopaco sarebbe stato più adatto. Il clickpad è abbastanza strano, e non si riesce ad usare bene. L'autonomia nemmeno è eccezionale - gli studenti che vogliono un secondo portatile economico devono considerare questi aspetti. Infine, il TravelMate non sfrutta tutto il potenziale del processore; il Dell Latitude 3180 e l'Asus VivoBook E200HA sempre a raffreddamento passivo fanno un lavoro migliore a riguardo. L'unico aspetto positivo per il momento è l'SSD.

L'Acer TravelMate Spin B1 è un qualcosa di misto: il display è impressionante, ma il convertibile ha anche molte pecche. 

I punti citati rendono difficile raccomandare in pieno lo Spin B1. Il fatto che il TravelMate sia un convertibile non è un punto di forza unico e nemmeno il design fanless. Le differenze di prezzo sono limitate inoltre. Uno dei maggiori punti di forza è il display: coloro che vogliono una adeguata copertura della gamma di colore ed ampi angoli di visuale potrebbero considerare il TravelMate.
