Motorola Edge 70 è lo smartphone ultra-sottile più maturo tra quelli che abbiamo testato. Non perché sia il più potente di tutti (non lo è), né perché ha il design più futuristico. Ma perché sa fare i giusti compromessi: la sottigliezza estrema non è stata ottenuta a discapito della batteria, lo schermo è tra i migliori sulla piazza, la resistenza è elevata. Si è limato dove il consumatore medio non nota troppe differenze, ovvero le performance (bilanciate da un software stabile e leggero) e la fotocamera. Promosso a pieni voti!

Motorola Edge 70 è uno smartphone che fa della sottigliezza il suo tratto distintivo, dimostrando che è possibile raggiungere spessori da record senza sacrificare l’autonomia. Il prezzo di listino di 799 euro ci sembra però francamente eccessivo, soprattutto considerando alcune lacune nel comparto fotografico e le prestazioni non sempre brillanti del processore. Tuttavia, al prezzo attuale di circa 580 euro su Amazon, con l’aggiunta della promozione che include caricabatterie da 87W, Moto Tag, Moto Watch Fit e Moto Buds Loop (per un valore commerciale di circa 320 euro), il rapporto qualità-prezzo diventa decisamente più interessante.

Motorola edge 70 è a nostro avviso la lettura più pragmatica finora del concetto di smartphone ultra-slim: non rincorre la scheda tecnica estrema, ma concentra risorse su leggerezza e, soprattutto, batteria, offrendo un'esperienza quotidiana convincente a un prezzo più sensato rispetto ai primi esperimenti sottilissimi di fascia premium. Il compromesso più evidente resta il SoC Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, che non è esattamente un chip flagship e non garantirà record in termini di prestazioni, insieme all'assenza di un teleobiettivo dedicato che può pesare per i fotografi più esigenti rispetto ad altri dispositivi con design convenzionali.

Il formato slim qui non è un numero da mostrare, ma una scelta che si sente ogni giorno. In mano è comodissimo, in tasca sparisce, e la presa è tra le più naturali che ci sia capitato di provare di recente. In più, il lavoro su materiali e finiture restituisce una sensazione premium vera, non solo “da foto”. Anche la resistenza è curata, con certificazioni importanti, e questo rende l’ultrasottile meno delicato di quanto si potrebbe pensare. Il display è uno di quei pannelli che si apprezzano subito: grande, definito, fluido, con vetro piatto e cornici sottili. Si usa bene, si scrive bene, e l’esperienza è lineare. L’autonomia, poi, è stata una delle conferme più forti: la batteria da 4.800 mAh su un corpo da 6 mm sembra quasi un controsenso, e invece funziona.

The Motorola Edge 70, for all its few flaws in-between, is a slim phone done right. Aside from the exceptional design language that I absolutely love, the Moto Edge 70 has a lovely screen, and while performance is nothing to write home about, it didn't irked me as much as the synthetic benchmarks would otherwise suggest. And definitely props to Motorola for not cutting any corners in the battery department, the crux of this generation of thin phones like the iPhone Air or the Galaxy S25 Edge. It surely felt quite refreshing to use a device that combines an ultra-thin build with a more than adequate battery and great endurance. On the downside, I missed having a telephoto camera on this phone. The software also isn't a highlight: most of the Motorola-exclusive AI features aren't very useful. And don't get me started on the preinstalled bloatware –– we should have left that in the previous decade. Overall, despite the few kinks that need to be ironed out, the Motorola Edge 70 is one very decent thin phone.

The Motorola Edge 70 is an interesting phone. Of all slim devices I've seen, it has a distinct advantage in that it's cheaper and feels more like a 'normal' phone – in a good way. The downside compared to irs more expensive competitors is that it's clearly a mid-range phone rather than offering flagship power. Motorola's software experience and camera can't compete at this price level either. However, there's a great display, flagship-grade protection, and a nice design. The smaller battery isn't much of a compromise either, as it still lasts through the day with nice fast-charging for top-ups, while the performance will be good enough for all but the most demanding. Ultimately, the Moto Edge 70 achieves slimness at a lower cost than Apple's and Samsung's equivalents, making it a good step for slim phones – but not one defining enough to make them the de facto choice for everyone just yet.

Ultrathin phones, in my mind, aren’t true flagships, despite the fact that they usually cost close to a grand. They don’t offer the same high-end camera hardware, processing power takes a hit in such a thin chassis, and the battery leaves much to be desired. That’s why Motorola’s Edge 70 feels like the first slimline phone that makes sense. It’s not a flagship, with a much more comfortable £699 price tag that makes the ultrathin compromises much easier to swallow. And even then, Motorola has managed to up the competition in the all-important battery life and charging department, which alone should make the Edge 70 a tempting alternative to the iPhone Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The only real chink in its armour is the chipset. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 isn’t exactly a powerful chip, and that’ll immediately put some off.

I can’t recommend the Motorola Edge 70. Although it offers the best balance between price and functionality of any ultra-thin smartphone I’ve tested, I don’t think that this particular form factor is there yet. If brands don’t drop the idea entirely, I do not doubt that the next generation (or perhaps the one after that) will be even thinner and lighter, while offering better performance and battery life – switching to silicon-carbon cells will be a big help there. For the time being, if you’re desperate for an ultra-thin phone, this is the one to buy. The lightweight build is wonderful, and the price isn’t as tear-inducing as the other options. To anyone else, however, I’d say you’re better off waiting and seeing where this particular trend leads before putting down your money.

Every crazy thin phone I’ve tested to date has been forced to compromise in one way or another. The Edge 70 is the closest any have come to being the total package, which is impressive given it has a more mainstream price than the key competition. It’ll comfortably last a day of use, and won’t keep you waiting when it’s time to refuel. Motorola hasn’t skimped on the styling or materials, either. Performance and camera image quality are more in line with the more affordable side of the mid-range spectrum, though, so you’re definitely paying over the odds in order to lose a few millimetres. If photography or gaming grunt matter more, you may want to shop around.
