However, if you can spare $200, I'd bump up your purchase to the HP Pavilion dv7-4183cl, the Editors' Choice for desktop replacement laptops. It has Blu-ray and a discrete graphics chip if you're looking to do some light gaming. If you're willing to downgrade to a 15.6-inch screen and a slower processor, then the Samsung R580-JBB2, complete with WiMax, WiDi, and Blu-ray is an excellent option.

But a higher-resolution display would be a welcome upgrade, as would a Blu-ray player. An hour or two more of battery life would sweeten the deal. If you want a bit more graphics muscle, fuller sounding audio, and a durable metallic finish, the HP dv7-6143cl is the way to go, though it’ll cost you $120 more.

Also, input devices fall short of the competition as well – the touchpad is stiff and has suboptimal gliding surface while the keyboard has that cheap feeling and short key travel. Dell: Dell è un produttore statunitense (con sede in Texas) di hardware per computer fondato nel 1984 ed è uno dei maggiori produttori internazionali sia in termini di quota di mercato che di modelli di notebook. La sua linea di prodotti comprende desktop, notebook, sistemi di archiviazione, monitor, server, stampanti, elettronica di consumo e periferiche. Dell offre laptop adatti a varie applicazioni, come laptop aziendali, laptop da gioco, ultra portatili e workstation. I laptop aziendali Dell delle serie Latitude e Precision sono un'opzione per utenti professionali e aziende.
Nel 2023, Dell deteneva una quota di mercato di circa il 17% delle vendite globali di PC, classificandosi al terzo posto dopo Lenovo e HP.
Per gli appassionati di giochi, il marchio Alienware di Dell è per i notebook da gioco.
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.
ATI Radeon Xpress X1270:
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M: Basata sulla GeForce GT 425M con una velocità clock leggermente superiore.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processore grafico high end tra i modelli Ivy Bridge. Offre una differente velocità clock nei diversi modelli di CPU (da ULV a desktop quad core) e di conseguenza con prestazioni variabili.
Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
NVIDIA GeForce 920M:
Scheda grafica che si basa su una GeForce 825M Kepler rinominata (GK208) con velocità clock leggermente superiore.
NVIDIA GeForce 940MX:
Scheda grafica di fascia media per laptop basata sull'architettura Maxwell. Rispetto alla vecchia 940M, la MX ora supporta anche la memoria grafica GDDR5 e dovrebbe avere velocità clock leggermente superiori.
NVIDIA GeForce 920MX:
Prossima (Q1 2016) scheda grafica entry-level con supporto per memoria grafica DDR3 (lenta) e GDDR5 (veloce).
Intel HD Graphics 620:
GPU integrata (GT2, 24 EUs) che si trova su alcuni modelli di CPU Kaby-Lake-Refresh (15 W ULV series). Tecnicamente identica alla precedente GPU Kaby-Lake chiamata HD Graphics 620.
Intel UHD Graphics 620:
GPU integrata (GT2, 24 EUs) si trova su alcuni modelli CPU Kaby-Lake-Refresh (15 W ULV series). Tecnicamente è identica alla precedente GPU Kaby-Lake chiamata HD Graphics 620.
AMD Radeon 530:
Scheda grafica dedicata entry-level con 320 o 384 shaders (in base al chip usato) e memoria grafica DDR3 o GDDR5 (entrambe con bus da 64 Bit). Entrambi i chips sono stati usati da qualche anno, es. anche a partire dalla Radeon 8590M (28nm GCN).

AMD Turion 64 X2: L'AMD Turion 64 X2 con l'intenzione di contrastare l'Intel Core Duo è stato presentato il 17 Maggio 2006. L'attuale consumo non è superiore a quello dei portatili con Centrino-Duo-notebooks (TL-45 con ATI Xpress e Mobility Radeon X300). Ciò significa che bisogna attendersi approssimativamente la stessa autonomia della batteria e le stesse funzioni di raffreddamento (con questo chipset). Tuttavia, le prestazioni sono del 20% inferiori al T2300 (1.66 GHz) a causa della Cache L2 inferiore (il Core Duo ha 2048 Kbyte di cache L2 condivisa). Tuttavia le prestazioni sono sufficienti.
TL-64: Processore dual core realizzato in 65nm e basato sul core K8. Prestazioni paragonabili a CPU Core Duo da 2.0 GHz con 1MB di Level 2 Cache (Celeron Dual Core es.).
Intel Core i5:
480M: Il Core i5-480M ha solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-620M) ed un clock tra 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, 4 threads possono essere gestiti simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (GMA HD) ed un controller di memoria DDR3.
