Tirare le somme su questo MacBook Pro 16 con M5 Max non è semplice, perché il suo target è molto ristretto e non semplicissimo da definire. È un prodotto con prestazioni indiscutibilmente eccellenti, ma sostanzialmente sovradimensionate per il 99% degli utenti. Nella configurazione top si superano ampiamente i 7000 euro, mentre anche la variante “base” con GPU a 40 core parte da poco più di 5000 euro. Sono cifre enormi, e raccontarle come se fossero normali sarebbe sbagliato. Ma sarebbe altrettanto sbagliato valutarle fuori contesto. Per un professionista che vive di montaggio, 3D, AI, coding avanzato, fotografia o pipeline produttive complesse, una macchina del genere può davvero tradursi in ore risparmiate ogni settimana. E a quel punto il ragionamento cambia. Ma quindi questo MacBook Pro M5 Max vale il prezzo a cui è venduto? Pensandoci bene forse questa è una domanda sbagliata. In the title of this review, I said that “this is better than your desktop,” which might be a bit of an overstatement for a small number of you. Yes, if you’ve got a top-end spec Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra, that statement is less definitive. But I know that folks who bought that machine probably didn’t all get it fully tricked out. A majority of people are using older desktop computers, and I’m certain a large number of you are using computers much older than the M3 Ultra. So I stand by that statement with just a slight clarification: for most of you, this computer is better than your desktop — a lot better. Apple often gets a lot of flak for what is characterized as a “walled garden” approach to both its hardware and software design. I can see how PC enthusiasts, especially, probably look at what Apple does with particular disdain, as they like being able to be in control of their machines. But on the opposite side of that coin, there are clearly benefits to Apple’s approach.

Apple M5 Max 40-Core GPU:
Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).
