Quello che a primo impatto appare un semplice Nexus 5X nasconde molta tecnologia sotto il cofano. Oltre ad un moderno SoC Snapdragon, ci sono tutti gli standard wireless attuali come AC Wi-Fi fino a 866 Mbit/s, Bluetooth 4.2 ed NFC. Sono supportati anche molti mobile network standards. Il lettore di impronte integrato funziona in modo affidabile e quasi senza ritardi ed il modulo GPS molto preciso sono i punti di forza tecnologici. Lo schermo pure ha molti punti positivi con la sua luminosità, gli ottimi valori di contrasto, e la riproduzione precisa del colore.

La fotocamera principale dello smartphone scatta immagini definite se la luminosità è buona e trova velocemente la messa a fuoco grazie al supporto laser. Il luminoso dual-LED spesso non riesce ad evitae in calo di qualità dell'immagine con la riduzione della luminosità. Tuttavia, i disturbi dell'immagine aumentano nettamente quando gli oggetti sono molto distanti. L'opzione di registrare videos UHD è eccellente, ma lo spazio limitato diventa un serio problema. Gli utenti del Nexus 5X non avranno oltre 32 GB; la configurazione base addirittura ne offre 16 GB come memoria flash.

Il Nexus 5X convince per molti aspetti nell'utilizzo quotidiano. Segue le impronte del precedessore indiretto Nexus 5 con una buona autonomia, un sistema operativo reattivo e il case che brilla per stabilità e qualità di costruzione.

I clienti Nexus nondevono preoccuparsi degli aggiornamenti Android in quanto li riceveranno molto velocemente da Google. In aggiunta allo spazio non espandibile, prezzo 529 Euros (~$581) saranno forse i principali ostacoli al successo dello smartphone. Molti concorrenti producono dispositivi molto più economici. Ad esempio l'LG G4 ora parte da circa 450 Euro (~$494) e monta anche molto spazio interno e uno schermo superiore da 5.5".
