Guru Gaming ha spinto oltre questa idea presentando il Fire KS, un dispositivo spesso 18,6-mm da 15" che monta un Core i7-7700HQ ed una GeForce GTX 1060. Vediamo cosa comporta questa combinazione in termini di temperature e rumorosità.

I tempi di risposta del display mostrano quanto sia veloce lo schermo a cambaire da un colore all'altro. Tempi di risposta lenti poccono creare sovrapposizioni negloi oggetti in movimento. Specialmente i giocatori patiti del 3D dovrebbero usare uno schermo con rempi di risposta bassi.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Il Guru Fire KS è un portatile gaming ben costruito che ha qualche difficoltà a gestire il controllo della ventola.

Con carichi 3D è abbastanza rumoroso. Le continue variazioni di rotazione in idle e la costante rumorosità diventano fastidiosi dopo un po'.  

Senza questi problemi, questo dispositivo da 15" sarebbe sicuramente un buon acquisto. Non solo il case in metallo, ma anche i dispositivi di input e il display Full-HD sono molto buoni a parte qualche piccolo dettaglio. I principali aspetti positivi per comprare questo dispositivo sono l'ampia autonomia e la costruzione compatta. Difficilmente altri portatili high-end sono comodi da portare in giro, quindi potreste anche accettare le elevate temperature della CPU in cambio di questo vantaggio. Ma non dimenticate che il Core i7-7700HQ ha teso al throttling durante i nostri tests dopo un po' di tempo di utilizzo di applicazioni 3D pesanti.

Nel complesso, il sistema di raffreddamento sembra essere un po' al limite considerando le dotazioni hardware di questo dispositivo. Se il produttore di Barebone Clevo ha difficoltà a creare un sistema di raffreddamento adatto a portatili gaming ultra-sottili con la GeForce GTX 1060,  sarebbe meglio concedere al dispositivo un paio di millimetri in più o limitarsi ad un Core i5-7300HQ ed una GeForce GTX 1050 Ti o GTX 1060 Max-Q.
