Uno dei principali punti di forza di un portatile sganciabile è la capacità i sostituire sia un tablet che un portatile con una soluzione 2-in-1. Il risultato in genere non è perfetto con una qualità discutibile, tastiera scarsa, display pesante, meno features, e prestazioni lente in quanto l'hardware deve essere inserito nelle dimensioni di un tablet

Il Surface Book è uno dei migliori sganciabili attualmente sul emrcato. Ha una eccellente qualità, unta tastiera illuminata come quella degli Ultrabooks, un display relativamente leggero con una base sottile, prestazioni simili ad un portatile grazie alla sua GPU Nvidia. A parte quale bug nell'aggancio e sgancio del tablet, tutto sul Surface Book funziona incredibilmente bene senza grossi problemi. Le cerniera ha il uno svantaggio dal punto di vista estetico, in quanto il portatile non si chiude mai completamente nel senso tradizionale, ma è funzionalmente superiore ad altre soluzioni che si trovano su sganciabili come il Transformer Book Chi o il Toshiba Portege Z20t. Per un dispositivo da $1500, questa qualità di hardware è ottima.

Quello che non ci è piaciuto del Surface Book sono state le mancanze. L'assenza di HDMI-out e WWAN, quest'ultima una sopresa considerando il design del dispositivo. Diversamente dalla serie Surface Pro dove il tablet si regge da solo, il Surface Book tablet si ferma al solo jack audio da 3.5 mm. Manca anche uno spazio di archiviazione secondario, che speriamo Microsoft aggiungerà in futuro includendo un HDD o SSD opzionale nella keyboard dock.Il Surface Book è un notebook ed un tablet insieme - diversametne da Surface Pro 3 o Surface Pro 4.

Dobbiamo raccomandare il Surface Book rispetto ad un portatile tradizionae? Chiunque utilizzi già uno sganciabile potrebbe considerare la soluzione Microsoft come una seria alternativa ad un Ultrabook. Tuttavia, gli utenti che hanno poco interesse alla GPU o che utilizzano il computer soprattutto per navigare, scrivere e riprodurre multimedia troveranno portatili Ultrabook più leggeri, sottili ed economici e con molte più features.

Per gli utenti core business, il ThinkPad, l'EliteBook, ed il Latitude sono potenti opioni con vitali features che non ha il Surface Book. Per tutti gli altri, si tratta di una alternativa all'Apple MacBook della Microsoft per i fan di Windows.
