Potente, equilibrato, costruito con una cura maniacale e con un comparto fotografico che riesce a regalare scatti di livello assoluto, sia di giorno che di notte. La qualità si sente ovunque, dal vetro posteriore al feedback aptico, dal display reattivo e ben calibrato al suono corposo degli speaker stereo. Le prestazioni sono da vero top di gamma, nella versione “Elite” dello Snapdragon, che viene raffreddato in modo efficiente e non scalda mai troppo, nemmeno in sessioni di gioco o stress prolungati. La gestione termica è uno dei suoi punti forti, e rende l’uso quotidiano sempre fluido, stabile e appagante.Il tutto accompagnato da una batteria da 6.100 mAh che regge tranquillamente un’intera giornata piena e quando serve, c’è sempre la ricarica 100W SuperVOOC.Eppure, non è un telefono per tutti: va cercato, capito, sistemato, “sbloccato” a livello software per dare il meglio anche da noi.

Tra gli Ultra, Oppo ha trovato spazio per fare l’Android più Ultra di tutti. Il Find X8 Ultra ci ha riservato poche sorprese, nel senso più positivo possibile. Migliora un sistema fotografico già eccellente (quello del Find X8 Pro), aggiungendo raffinatezza e rifiniture a entrambe le estremità dello zoom, e compiendo al contempo passi da gigante verso la compattezza della fotocamera (relativamente agli ingombri, ovviamente). I perfezionisti troverebbero sempre motivi di lamentela e consigli di ogni natura, ma qui è difficile intervenire se non in modo pretestuoso.

OPPO Find X8 Ultra è un ottimo smartphone, su questo non abbiamo alcun dubbio e se fosse disponibile ufficialmente nel nostro mercato rientrerebbe certamente tra i migliori smartphone Android in assoluto, come del resto è avvenuto per il suo fratello minore Find X8 Pro. Il fatto che però l’acquisto implichi l’importazione dalla Cina, pone chiaramente qualche interrogativo in più. Ne vale la pena? Importarlo dalla Cina con annessi e connessi espone a potenziali problemi di garanzia, manca la compatibilità con i WearOS e il software, pur con tutta la buona volontà e il tempo speso, rimarrà sempre progettato per il mercato asiatico, con qualcosina qua e là a ricordarlo.

A parte quindi qualche minima imperfezione, l'unico reale difetto è legato alla mancata distribuzione in occidente, che obbliga gli interessati a rivolgersi all'importazione dalla Cina con tutti i problemi che questa comporta.

OPPO è riuscita nell’impresa di eliminare il principale compromesso che ha sempre caratterizzato questi dispositivi: il peso eccessivo e le dimensioni proibitive. OPPO Find X8 Ultra è uno smartphone che si merita di diritto il suffisso "Ultra", non c'è molto di più che si possa desiderare. Da persone entusiaste del settore ci dispiace non vedere un prodotto di questa fattura arrivare in Europa, specificatamente in Italia. OPPO avrà sicuramente i suoi validi motivi, magari dai numeri di vendita del Find X8 Pro hanno pensato che sovraffollare ancor di più la fascia alta non era la scelta vincente, ma anche solo per "blasone" uno fra questo Ultra e il Find N5 che abbiamo recensito un mesetto fa noi lo avremmo portato.Anche i rimandi ad iPhone, che spesso scadono nel banale, qui sono ben fatti e a volte addirittura realizzati meglio, come il Camera Control! Detto questo, le foto sono da podio assieme a Xiaomi 15 Ultra e Vivo X200 Ultra, ma qui anche il resto dell'hardware è di altissimo livello.

Had Oppo launched the Find X8 Ultra worldwide, it would surely have scored a full five stars here. This is an exceptional smartphone, with some of the best rear cameras you’ll find anywhere. Regardless of zoom level and lighting conditions, this is a photography powerhouse that shows what can be achieved when you go all out on top-tier sensor hardware. The silicon-carbon battery also has outstanding staying power, even when tasked with powering Qualcomm’s fastest silicon and an impressively bright display. Sadly, though, it’s only on sale in China. Even if you went to the trouble of importing one, the software won’t play nicely with some things Western devices take for granted, like pairing with Wear OS watches, Gemini voice commands, and Circle to Search. You’ll never truly be able to strip out all the region-specific apps and settings, either. As the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is more readily available in Europe and beyond, it’s simply easier to recommend to keen phone photographers.

The phone itself is top class, with a new design that is the thinnest Ultra phone yet. The design is more subtle than previous generations, but it's sophisticated and premium, and it feels great in the hand. The screen is also a stunner, with a flat display with minimal bezels. Performance is powerful, and while the phone isn't conservative with the 6,100mAh battery, it does keep plugging away all day. But cameras are where this Ultra phone really shines, and Oppo's four (five, including the True Chroma camera) are something spectacular.

It improves on an already excellent camera system, adding refinement and polish at both ends of the zoom range, while also taking much needed strides towards camera hump compactness (it's obviously all relative, of course). Perfectionists would always find grounds for complaint, but they'd need to look long and hard here. Oppo's push for bringing size down is manifested in other areas too, and the handset is reasonably thin, but is still premium as ever, and dust and water-tight as much as the best in the business. Battery life didn't suffer in the process and neither did fast charging, so that's a couple more wins.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra is the most surprising non-folding phone this year. Like most Oppo phones, it delivers excellent battery life and performance, but it also features the best camera on an ultra phone and several unique features. Then there’s the software, and it’s the first time a Chinese ROM has felt so polished and similar to a global ROM. The biggest surprise is the price. Even with additional margin added by third parties, you can buy it right now for around $1,000. For that, you’ll get the best Ultra phone in 2025 and my favorite camera phone to boot. Yes, it isn’t launching globally, so you’ll need to import it rather than buy it from an established local retailer, but it’s the first time I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend doing so. It’s the best Oppo phone ever made and one of the best phones you can buy now.

I only miss the antireflective coating from the Galaxy S25 Ultra feature, but no other phone has that unfortunately.

The only negative with the Find X8 Ultra has to do with the software; the Chinese version of ColorOS has too many inconsistencies to be usable outside the country — particularly if you want to use Google services. That's why it's annoying that the device won't be debuting in global markets; OPPO has to do better in this area, and launch its best products to a wider audience. Other than that, there isn't anything to fault with the device. It has a great AMOLED panel, the best hardware currently available, standout battery life with the best charging tech in the industry, and the best cameras. The main 1-inch camera continues to be a delight to use in 2025, and the auxiliary lenses are among the best of any phone I used this year. The Find X8 Ultra does a fantastic job with videos as well, and I thoroughly enjoyed using the phone.
