Lisa Gade reviews a new ThinkBook 15.6” laptop from Lenovo that targets content creators who don’t want to spend crazy money for a powerful and stylish laptop. The ThinkBook 15P runs Windows 10 Pro on Intel 10th gen 45 watt CPUs up to the 8-core i7. It has NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q graphics, and a full HD IPS or wide gamut 10 bit 4k display (both matte non-touch). It has a 2-tone aluminum lid and rigid build quality though it’s reasonably slim and light. The laptop has upgradeable RAM and storage, Wi-Fi 6, a fingerprint scanner and a webcam privacy shutter. Don’t confuse it with the Lenovo ThinkPad P15 mobile workstation that’ll also be reviewing.

EN→ITHere's the good news: this is an excellent overall PC. It does a lot right, with a beautiful 4K display, an excellent keyboard, and more. It also does a lot wrong, such as not including DisplayPort out in the USB Type-C port. I'd also love to have seen better ports in general, a larger trackpad, and an IR camera. Still, you get a lot for the price.

Con la seconda generazione del suo portatile multimediale, Lenovo affronta alcune lamentele sul predecessore. Il ThinkBook 15p G2 mostra alcuni miglioramenti e offre quasi tutto ciò che si può chiedere in termini di creazione di media. Grazie ad una Nvidia RTX e ad un potente processore Tiger Lake, ci sono molte prestazioni. Tuttavia, rimangono anche alcuni punti deboli.

EN→ITWe are always skeptical when we see a “dual-purpose” notebook. By nature, the ThinkBook 15p Gen 2 is exactly that, with it both trying to satisfy business users, as well as content creators. In this perspective, the laptop is clearly nothing that catches the eye. This means that Lenovo has done its job perfectly. Yes, the device looks sleek with its dual-tone grey finish, while the lid and bottom panel are made from metal. However, one can never guess that it has the power to drive you through a high-res video editing session, or even 3D modeling. We feel that the notebook is perfect for architects as well, although the small amount of video memory (4GB) may become a limiting factor in larger projects. What will certainly help though, is that you have the option to put up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM in dual-channel mode. Also, the addition of a Gen 4-capable M.2 PCIe x4 slot means you can access large files as fast as possible. While you can’t run away from the fact that this is a gaming GPU and not a pro-grade Quadro offering, the Studio drivers should provide a bit of help.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" dalla leggenda inglese, novo (latino) per nuovo) è stata fondata nel 1984 come società cinese di commercio di computer. Nel 2004, l'azienda era il più grande produttore di laptop in Cina e, dopo aver acquisito la divisione PC di IBM nel 2005, il quarto più grande al mondo. Oltre a desktop e notebook, l'azienda produce monitor, proiettori, server, ecc. ed è specializzata nello sviluppo, produzione e commercializzazione di elettronica di consumo, personal computer, software, soluzioni aziendali e servizi correlati.
Nel 2016, l'azienda si è classificata al primo posto al mondo nelle vendite di computer. Lo deteneva ancora nel 2023 con una quota di mercato globale di circa il 23%. Importanti linee di prodotti sono Thinkpad, Legion e Ideapad.
Nel 2011 ha acquisito una partecipazione di maggioranza in Medion AG, un produttore europeo di hardware per computer. Nel 2014 è stata acquistata Motorola Mobility, che ha dato a Lenovo una spinta nel mercato degli smartphone.
Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q:
Scheda grafica dedicata di media gamma per computer portatili che utilizza un chip Turing TU117 senza raytracing e nuclei Tensor. Funziona a velocità di clock ridotte rispetto a un portatile GTX 1650 Ti per ottenere un consumo energetico molto più basso (35 contro 50 - 80 Watt).
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q:
Scheda grafica dedicata di fascia media per computer portatili sottili e leggeri basata sulla GTX 1650 ma con velocit‡ di clock e consumi ridotti. Utilizza l'architettura Turing (chip TU117 in 12nm FFN) ma senza Raytracing o Tensor cores.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU:
Scheda grafica per laptop da gioco di fascia media basata sul chip Ampere GA107.

Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10750H:
Un processore hexa-core ad alte prestazioni progettato per i computer portatili più spessi con spazio per migliori termiche. Il processore Comet Lake-H è prodotto sul processo Intel di terza generazione a 14 nm e dispone della iGPU UHD Graphics 630 con clock da 350 MHz a 1.150 MHz. I core della CPU funzionano a 2.6 GHz (velocità di clock di base) con boosting fino a 5 GHz e la probabile frequenza Boost all-core è di 4.3 GHz. Il supporto Hyper-Threading è abilitato, permettendo a due thread di funzionare simultaneamente su ogni core.
i5-10300H:
Su architettura Comet Lake (4a generazione di Skylake) basato su processore per computer portatili grandi e pesanti. Integra quattro core di processore con clock a 2,5 - 4,5 GHz (4,2 GHz con 4 core) che supportano HyperThreading.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-11800H:
SoC octa-core di fascia alta basato su Tiger Lake (serie H45) per computer portatili da gioco e workstation. Gli otto core della CPU funzionano da 2,3 GHz a 4,6 GHz. La GPU UHD Graphics integrata offre 32 UE fino a 1,45 GHz. Il chip è prodotto sul processo Intel SuperFin di seconda generazione a 10 nm.
