Al contrario di quello che potrebbe sembrare si tratta di un aspetto assolutamente positivo perchè MateBook D14 era e resta uno dei prodotti più interessanti nella fascia medio/bassa del mercato. Capirete a questo punto che essere paragonati ad uno dei migliori ti rende automaticamente tale. Se poi aggiungiamo anche un prezzo che, al netto delle promozioni, è 100 euro inferiore a quello della controparte Huawei ecco che MagicBook si candida come best-buy del momento. Un primato che potrebbe rimanere tale almeno fino all'arrivo dei nuovi prodotti con Ryzen 4000U che comunque in Italia partiranno da ben oltre i 600€ e ci aspettiamo un calo delle soluzioni 3500U in grado di portare il prezzo sotto i 500€ rendendoli quindi sempre molto interessanti.

É un computer, come detto, per un utilizzo generalista, non pensate di farci dei render pesanti in poco tempo, non pensate di giocare a Fortnite a 200 fps ma pensate che a 599 euro lui può essere un compagno quotidiano che per uso studentesco, per la navigazione Web e per tutti quegli impieghi che non necessitano di una scheda grafica dedicata particolarmente potente, io comunque un Full HD sono riuscito a montarlo tranquillamente. Insomma, così come mi era piaciuto il Matebook D 14″ di Huawei, mi piace ancora di più questo, nonostante non abbia i 512Gb di memoria SSD. Chi non ha bisogno di grandissimo spazio di archiviazione troverà in questo Honor MagicBook 14″ un best buy.

Un altro aspetto particolarmente interessante è il prezzo: 599,90 euro, che al lancio includono anche lo smartwatch MagicWatch 2. Insomma, il rapporto qualità/prezzo c'è tutto, si può tranquillamente chiudere un occhio sull'utilizzo di un processore AMD non di ultima generazione. Insomma, Honor ha fatto centro.

MagicBook 14 è esattamente il notebook che vorresti da un'azienda come Honor: aggressivo in tutto, nel design, nelle prestazioni, nel prezzo. Non ci sono particolari criticità: siamo davanti ad un prodotto già maturo, che non sacrifica nulla. Dai materiali alla tastiera, dalle finiture alle qualità audio, dal display all'autonomia. Un vero tuttofare insomma, con i soli limiti imposti da un processore AMD non di ultima generazione, ma comunque capace di tenere testa ai pari fascia di Intel, soprattutto sul fronte ludico. In una fascia quantomai combattuta, Honor MagicBook 14 rappresenta una delle migliori alternative del momento, ma la concorrenza (casalinga) è sempre in agguato.

For a measly £458, though, it’s easy to forgive a questionable webcam position - and, for that matter, some imperfections with the display quality and battery life. Or, to be more specific, it’s easy to overlook these faults when you can enjoy such a high standard of performance, build quality, styling and connectivity. The ThinkBook 13s has more of an enterprise focus with its TPM processor and Windows 10 Pro OS, as well as a better screen, but in almost every other way the MagicBook 14 is the superior laptop. It’s an absolute bargain and, geopolitics allowing, it will be exciting to see how Honor builds on this success with future devices.

For a measly £458, though, it’s easy to forgive a questionable webcam position - and, for that matter, some imperfections with the display quality and battery life. Or, to be more specific, it’s easy to overlook these faults when you can enjoy such a high standard of performance, build quality, styling and connectivity. The ThinkBook 13s has more of an enterprise focus with its TPM processor and Windows 10 Pro OS, as well as a better screen, but in almost every other way the MagicBook 14 is the superior laptop. It’s an absolute bargain and, geopolitics allowing, it will be exciting to see how Honor builds on this success with future devices.

The MagicBook has a better screen hinge, larger battery, faster and larger SSD – but has a slightly smaller screen and does not have a 2.5-inch HDD drive. In most cases, I’ll recommend the MagicBook. If you need a terabyte of storage, then get the Huawei MateBook D 15 instead.

So while the new MagicBook is a powerful, stylish and well-made laptop with improved battery life, the high price, Type-A 2.0 port, half-baked Type-C connector and daft webcam positioning all count against it, preventing a full recommendation.

The Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good budget large-screen Windows laptop. It looks great, handles basic PC tasks with aplomb and is superior to the very similar-looking Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020). The Huawei offers faster disk speeds and a marginally better graphical performance but the Honor’s display boasts better colour space coverage and greater colour accuracy, meaning it’s better suited for creative work. Battery life and CPU performance are slightly higher on the Honor as well. The Honor MagicBook 15 is edged out slightly by the Acer Swift 3 in terms of overall performance and portability, but if you value screen acreage over speed then the Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good-value option. If you’re looking for a large-screened 15in laptop for not very much money, they don’t get much better than this.

HONOR basically fixed all of the complaints I had for the MagicBook 14. I highly recommend it.

Buono l'audio - considerato che parliamo di un notebook - e anche il display si è dimostrato di qualità, tuttavia c'è un neo a nostro modo di vedere, ovvero il posizionamento della webcam. Come abbiamo già avuto modo di scrivere nell'articolo, HUAWEI ha scelto di implementare cornici sottili spostando la webcam nella base, all'interno della tastiera. Una soluzione che comporta un problema nella ripresa, dal basso verso l'alto. Inoltre, si finisce per non avere lo sguardo mai verso l'interlocutore e, se si scrive durante la videoconferenza, le dita impallano la ripresa. Un neo non da poco per chi vive di videoconferenze, altrimenti il prodotto risulta quasi impeccabile, anche grazie alla ricarica veloce USB C con l'alimentatore da 135W in bundle.

Huawei MateBook 16 è un notebook che sfiora l’eccellenza. La sfiora perché l’ottima tastiera, l’incredibile autonomia, il design convincente (sebbene derivativo) e lo schermo da 16”, che in questa fascia di prezzo è una rarità, sono grandi vantaggi; ma si scontrano con alcune pecche, sia hardware sia software, che minano l’esperienza generale: i 512 GB sono separati in due partizioni, senza un motivo apparente; la fotocamera frontale è in una posizione molto scomoda e i due microfoni forzano la riduzione del rumore. Inoltre, dal punto di vista grafica altri notebook, fra cui il MacBook Air con M1, rendono di più a quasi lo stesso prezzo, a volte anche più basso.

La sfiora perché l’ottima tastiera, l’incredibile autonomia, il design convincente (sebbene derivativo) e lo schermo da 16”, che in questa fascia di prezzo è una rarità, sono grandi vantaggi; ma si scontrano con alcune pecche, sia hardware sia software, che minano l’esperienza generale: i 512 GB sono separati in due partizioni, senza un motivo apparente; la fotocamera frontale è in una posizione molto scomoda e i due microfoni forzano la riduzione del rumore. Inoltre, dal punto di vista grafica altri notebook, fra cui il MacBook Air con M1, rendono di più a quasi lo stesso prezzo, a volte anche più basso.

In conclusione si tratta di un PC perfetto per l’uso generalista, per chi deve fare un po’ tutto, magari internet, office, mail e anche ogni tanto qualche sessione di gioco o montaggio video, che non rappresentano il suo utilizzo ideale ma sono comunque possibili. Diciamo che ad un centinaio di euro in meno avrebbe fatto faville, così com'è resta un ottimo notebook per la fascia di prezzo e sicuramente non rimarrete delusi.

Like several Honor laptops, the MagicBook 16 is a top deal. Just don’t come expecting an actual miracle. The touchpad is plastic, and its tacky surface pulls off a much less persuasive impersonation of glass than some. Those spotlight-stealing speakers? Nah, they’re no good. And while the Ryzen 5 5600H packs a punch, its performance in the games we tried is a little worse than what you’d get from a low voltage Intel CPU laptop, which looks much less powerful on paper.
