Appare evidente che qualche difettuccio di giovinezza lo abbia. Tralasciamo il peso eccessivo e la scarsa durata della batteria, stranamente proposta in soluzione a 4 celle da 3000 mAh, diversamente da quanto ci saremmo aspettati per gestire due schermi ed un processore che, nonostante offra la modalità di risparmio energetico, ha un TDP di 35 W. Quello che più ci ha dato preoccupazione risiede nella tastiera che, purtroppo, si è bloccata spesso (costringendoci al riavvio forzato di Windows) per colpa di qualche bug che speriamo venga presto risolto. Apprezziamo quindi lo sforzo di Acer nel divenire pioniere di nuovi stili e siamo sicuri che ben presto troverà diversi adepti al suo seguito, tuttavia c’è ancora qualche miglioramento da fare. Ad esempio sarebbe stato utile dotarlo di accelerometro per “sfogliarlo” come un vero e proprio giornale. Per ora ci sentiamo di lasciare questo prodotto solamente nelle mani dei più temerari, se non altro per evitare che il grande pubblico ne utilizzi le funzionalità solamente... in punta di dita.

It's not often that you come across a device that offers not one, but two bigger-than-iPad touchscreens, and is capable of running a full-fledged Windows 7 OS and robust productivity applications. Although its touch precision is nowhere near any iOS device, the ICONIA's multitasking ability still gives it an advantage. The dual screens and the Acer Ring application lend the notebook an oomph factor that makes the iPad and other Android tablets look boring. The current issues with the touch interface can be expected to fade away with the arrival of Windows 8. Having said that, the device has its limitations and lacks basics such as an inbuilt card reader. The battery is a downer, and people may not want to spend Rs 70,000 on this device. Long story short, the ICONIA-484G64ns will not replace traditional notebooks any time soon, but makes for a good alternative to the fancy MacBook seen on the CEO's desk.

Acer would have been much better off equipping the Iconia with a standard physical keyboard and replacing only the touchpad with a fairly high-resolution 4-inch touchscreen. It's good to see Acer trying some aggressive designs, especially ones as aesthetically pleasing as the Iconia's, but as a practical matter it just doesn't make sense to replace the lower deck of a Windows laptop with a touchscreen.

The Acer Iconia W510 is one of the first Windows 8 tablets with a convertible form factor that we have reviewed. Despite its Atom processor, it performs quite well and is good for office work. The IPS screen looks good and is very responsive. The build quality is very good. While its small size makes it very portable, its weight of 1.3 kg makes it surprisingly heavier than a standard netbook. Although there is a 64 GB SSD, there is hardly 20 GB free space available for the user and this might need to be augmented via microSD card. An exceptionally long battery life with the extra battery in the keyboard dock makes it a device that can be taken on a trip without having to worry about not finding a charging point. Priced at Rs 46,000, this is possibly one of the cheapest Windows 8 hybrid devices available in the market and we think it is worth a buy.

Other than a decent audio player that will require a further investment upward of Rs 650, the tablet is quite minimal in the features department. There are other devices in the range that have similar features with slighter higher specifications that are also cheaper, although they might not be made by an international brand like Acer. Acer: Nel 1976, l'azienda è stata fondata a Taiwan con il nome Multitech e nel 1987 è stata ribattezzata Acer o Acer Group. La gamma di prodotti comprende, ad esempio, laptop, tablet, smartphone, desktop, monitor, TV e periferiche per computer. Dal 2007, il gruppo si è fuso con Gateway Inc. e Packard Bell, che commercializzano anche le proprie linee di prodotti per laptop.
I computer Acer sono progettati per una varietà di scopi, inclusi ultrabook per uso mobile, laptop da gioco per giocatori, opzioni convenienti per le attività quotidiane e laptop convertibili 2 in 1 per la versatilità. Il portafoglio di prodotti Acer comprende anche tablet che offrono capacità informatiche portatili e multimediali.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail): GPU Bay Trail SoCs integrata per tablet e notebook. Si basa sulla GPU Ivy Bridge con quattro Execution Units e supporta DirectX 11.
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3650: Scheda grafica integrata nel processore (i.e. nell'Atom N2800) senza memoria grafica dedicata. Molto probabilmente basata sul design PowerVR simile alla GMA 500 ma con un clock rate superiore.

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processore grafico high end tra i modelli Ivy Bridge. Offre una differente velocità clock nei diversi modelli di CPU (da ULV a desktop quad core) e di conseguenza con prestazioni variabili.

Intel Core i5:
480M: Il Core i5-480M ha solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-620M) ed un clock tra 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, 4 threads possono essere gestiti simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (GMA HD) ed un controller di memoria DDR3.
3337U: CPU ULV Ivy-Bridge-based del primo trimestre 2013. Offre un core clock da 1.8 - 2.7 GHz ed una GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1100 MHz). Il TDP è di 17 W.
Intel Atom:
La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).
Z2760: Soc con un processore dual core Atom integrato con un clock fino a 1.8 GHz (solo con il Turbo?), una GPU SGX 545 PowerVR based con un clock da 533 MHz ed un controller di memoria dual channel LPDDR2-800.
