But the real-world performance just wasn't there (application loading, specifically). We felt that the CPU really shined during intensive tasks, but we would've preferred a more snappy desktop experience to go with it. Also a 64-bit OS should have been included since it ships with 4GB of RAM, and we would've preferred a somewhat less vivid design.

This notebook doesn’t quite have the graphics muscle of its larger sibling, but it does manage to balance power and portability. The inclusion of a Blu-ray drive kicks the price up to $829 at Best Buy—$30 more than the R780. Given its quality and the fact that the R580’s screen is less than full HD, we’d prefer a traditional DVD drive and a lower price instead. You’ll get better value and the same great design with the R780, but if a 17.3-inch screen is more than you need, the 15.6-inch Acer Aspire 5740G meets or beats the R580 in most performance tests and costs almost $100 less due to its lack of Blu-ray. Still, the Samsung R580 is a good pick if you’re looking for a notebook that’s stylish, powerful, and fairly mobile.

This notebook can be found online for ~$899 CAD which put it up against a ton of other competition but we found that thanks to all of the features Samsung has included it makes the R580 a pretty great "All-Around" laptop. Samsung: Samsung Group è il più grande conglomerato sudcoreano ed è stato fondato nel 1938. Samsung Group impiegava 489.000 persone nel 2014 ed è una delle più grandi aziende al mondo in termini di fatturato e forza di mercato. Il nome Samsung significa "Tre stelle" in coreano e rappresenta i tre figli del fondatore dell'azienda. L'azienda nasce nel 1938 come negozio di alimentari. Con la sua controllata Samsung Electronics, fondata nel 1969, Samsung ha intrapreso la produzione di articoli elettrotecnici, concentrandosi fin dall'inizio sull'elettronica di consumo e sugli elettrodomestici. Altri rami in cui è attiva la grande società includono ingegneria meccanica, automobili (Hyundai), assicurazioni, commercio all'ingrosso, immobiliare e tempo libero. Samsung produce una vasta gamma di prodotti elettronici, inclusi smartphone, televisori, elettrodomestici e semiconduttori. La linea di smartphone Galaxy dell'azienda è una delle più popolari al mondo. Samsung è anche uno dei principali attori nel settore dei semiconduttori, producendo chip di memoria e processori per molti altri produttori di elettronica.
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: La Nvidia GeForce GT 330M è il successore della GT 230M e stando alle informazioni trapelate una GT 240M con un clock superiore (ma dovrebbe ancora mantenere la potenza della GT 230M come suggerisce il nome).
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: La GeForce 310M è il successore della GeFore G210M e si basa sullo stesso chip con un clock rate molto simile (velocità shader +30MHz a 1530MHz).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570: La ATI Mobilty Radeon HD 4570 della AMD è una scheda grafica DirectX 10.1 di fascia medio bassa per portatili. Tecnicamente è una Mobility Radeon 4530/4330 con clock superiore.
AMD Specifica la presenza di un bus di memoria lento da 64 Bit, ma alcune varianti della GPU-Z mostrano bus da 128 Bit (potrebbe essere un errore).
Le prestazioni di gioco della ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 dovrebbero essere molto simili alla desktop HD 4550 che ha analoghe specifiche.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470:
Chip DirectX 11 entry level con supporto GDDR5 ma solo 80 shader core. Supporta Eyefinity (fino a 4 monitor) e 8-ch HD audio su HDMI. Prestazioni alla pari con la vecchia GeForce 8600M GT.

Intel Core i5:
520M: Il Core i5-520M ha solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-640M) ed un clock tra 2.4-2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto è inclusa anche una scheda grafica (GMA HD 3150) ed un controller memoria DDR3.
430M: Il Core i5-430M è una CPU dual core di media classe che sfrutta solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-640M) ed ha un clock tra 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Inoltre, nella 430M mancano VT-d, trusted Execution e funzioni AES. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere gestiti 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (Intel HD Graphics da 500-733 MHz) ed un controller memoria DDR3.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: Il Core i7-720QM è il Core i7 Quad più lento del 2009 ed ha un clock tra 1.6 e 2.8 GHz (grazie al Turbo Mode). Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7, la 720QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
