I tempi di risposta del display mostrano quanto sia veloce lo schermo a cambaire da un colore all'altro. Tempi di risposta lenti poccono creare sovrapposizioni negloi oggetti in movimento. Specialmente i giocatori patiti del 3D dovrebbero usare uno schermo con rempi di risposta bassi.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Il Defiance IV ha un ottimo aspetto. Il case è ben fatto e presenta superfici in alluminio che, anche se sono un po' soggette allo sporco, danno un'impressione di qualità e robustezza.

Proprio come ci si aspetta da un notebook gaming moderno, il dispositivo è dotato di tastiera retroilluminata. Se si ignora la mancanza della porta Thunderbolt 3, le opzioni di connettività sono davvero ottime.

Il display da 120 Hz è un'arma a doppio taglio. L'ampio spazio colore e la reattività sono ottimi, ma non riescono a bilanciare completamente gli scarsi angoli di visualizzazione e le deviazione del colore (con impostazioni di fabbrica). Valori dei neri, luminosità e distribuzione della luminosità non danno spazio alle critiche.

Il clock rate della CPU è un po' più problematico. Il fatto che il processore vada in throttling fino a scendere al di sotto della frequenza di base durante alcune applicazioni pesanti in 3D non è un'ottima notizia per un notebook gaming, anche se questa caduta non è sempre visibile a occhio nudo. Forse il produttore rilascerà un aggiornamento del BIOS per risolvere il problema. Se il Core i7-7700HQ riuscisse a raggiungere il suo pieno potenziale, la concorrenza (Acer V17 Nitro, MSI GS73VR 7RG, etc.) dovrebbe iniziare a guardarsi alle spalle.

Oltre alla buona autonomia della batteria, permessa dalla tecnologia Optimus di Nvidia, vogliamo menzionare anche le ottime prestazioni in materia di emissioni con il dispositivo in attesa, il case che permette un accesso piuttosto facile ai componenti e le opzioni di configurazione individuale. Tuttavia, avremmo gradito temperature più basse e meno rumore con il sistema sotto carico.
