ASUS ROG Phone 6D non rappresenta forse la consacrazione definitiva di MediaTek nel gaming in cui alcuni appassionati speravano, ma si tratta di un flagship che convince sotto più fronti, rivaleggiando coi top di gamma Qualcomm in più contesti. Tra gli aspetti da migliorare, sicuramente ci sono le temperature: la stessa ASUS ROG consiglia di sfruttare una accessorio esterno, venduto a parte a 89,99 euro, per sessioni particolarmente prolungate e questo approccio ci fa storcere un po' il naso. Durante la nostra prova, tuttavia, il thermal throttling è stato solo limitato e non ha compromesso l'esperienza classica di gioco e utilizzo quotidiano. Per intenderci, mantenendo il profilo Dinamico e puntando comunque a un gaming privo di compromessi in termini di opzioni, è possibile giocare per lungo tempo senza alcun tipo di problema. L'utente che punta al top del mercato potrebbe storcere un po' il naso davanti ad alcuni risultati lato benchmark, ma utilizzando poi lo smartphone per le sessioni gaming si comprende perfettamente il motivo per cui ASUS ROG ha deciso di imbarcarsi in questa strada, visto che i tempi per un flagship gaming su base MediaTek sono finalmente maturi. Va detto che il prezzo di 1.029 euro e la presenza sul mercato di un ASUS ROG Phone 6 su base Qualcomm, proposto a un costo simile, possono per certi versi minare il collocamento del prodotto, ma la parola chiave è "possibilità di scelta". Al netto della questione MediaTek e del confronto con Qualcomm, troviamo uno smartphone dalle ottime performance, che offre anche un buon display AMOLED con refresh rate fino a 165 Hz. Non manca un comparto connettività completo di Wi-Fi 6E e 5G, così come sono presenti un'ottima autonomia e una ricarica a 65W. Certo, il comparto fotografico non è propriamente da top di gamma e il prezzo non è per tutti.

The ASUS ROG Phone 6D is an excellent choice not just for gaming but also for everyday use. We’re already past the point of gaming phones severely lacking in the camera department and it has become a viable all-rounded with great performance to boot. Your only dilemma would be choosing between this or the standard ROG Phone 6 but either way, both devices will be more than able to serve you well. I do believe we have come to the limits, or close to it, for high end smartphones that the benefits of having a stronger chip is minimal for the most part. For next year, the focus should either be on efficiency, having more apps take full advantage of strong hardware, or an evolution to justify pushing the limits of performance even further other than just Genshin Impact. After all, what’s the point of pushing to 240Hz if most apps and games ends up throttling or can only do 60FPS and run at 60Hz at best?
