We've praised Acer's Aspire Timeline 3810T and 4810T laptops in the past, and here we meet the baby of the family. The characteristic Timeline design looks rather businesslike in this compact form, and the 1810T packs some serious battery life too, lasting 6hrs 20mins in our light use battery life test and 3hrs 26mins under heavy use.

The Acer Aspire 1410 is a great alternative to the netbook class of devices. With its single-core ultra low voltage processor, it runs single threaded applications well and offers far better performance than any Atom-based (non-ION) netbook. Add to this the higher resolution screen, Windows 7 Home Premium, double the memory, and it starts to look a lot more appetizing than a netbook for just $60 more.

Since it's not officially launched yet, these are indicative prices - MRP Rs. 35,000 and MOP Rs. 32,000. It is a bit expensive, but benefit of doubt may be given if the fact that the processor is stronger than Intel Atom processors. It performs CPU heavy processes quite well. The screen is also something I really liked, it was really bright and crisp. Battery performance could be better though it’s not bad. Last but not least its aesthetic appeal is very slick and very sexy.

While identical in appearance, the Aspire Timeline 1810T lasts a couple of hours longer on a charge and offers more memory and hard drive space. However, that system costs $200 more. At $399—the same price as most premium 10-inch netbooks—the 1410’s dual-core processor, portability, comfortable keyboard, and over 6 hours of battery life make it a compelling choice.

The Acer Aspire One strikes an excellent balance between power, performance, price and battery life. The updated model offers marginally better performance and a much improved operating system at a lower price, which makes this $400 laptop look pretty attractive. But it’s not perfect. It’s bigger and bulkier than a 10 inch netbook, and there are plenty of other machines that offer better performance or battery life. But I haven’t seen another machine that offers as much as the Aspire 1410 at this price point.

In the $599 Aspire 1810T, Acer has found a platform where Intel’s ULV processor makes the most sense. In an 11.6-inch system, it provides a marked improvement over Atom chips without sacrificing endurance. However, in choosing between this system and an Ion-powered netbook like the HP Mini 311, you’ll have to decide what’s more important: graphics power, or CPU and battery performance. If you’re willing to pay a $200 premium over the typical netbook, the 1810T’s extra muscle, slick design, comfortable keyboard, and all-day battery life make it well worth the money.

Acer really hit the nail on the head with this Aspire 1410.  However, as with anything it is not perfect and will not fit everyone’s needs.  The touchpad is poorly designed as it is hard to tell the edges.  Acer support does not have the best reputation, if something goes wrong it could be a real hassle dealing with support.  And of course, while the Acer 1410 performs better than any netbook it’s still vastly under powered relative to more full sized laptops with 15-inch plus sized screens such as the HP Pavilion dv6t or Dell Inspiron 15.

Acer 1810T and Acer 1410AS Notebook Review

The Acer 1810T managed to impress me. It's well built, very portable and powerful enough for most parts of normal use. It's performance and screen are a huge improvement over netbooks. Battery life performance is among the best in class.

The SU3500 CPU has some limitations, mainly HD flash playback. I'm looking forward to test the 1810TZ with SU4100 Dual Core, to see if it does better. 1080p video playback on the 1410 (1810T) looks nothing short of amazing due to the good performance, glossy screen and impressive sound of the small speakers. This notebook will be a great choice for movie lovers.

Acer's Aspire laptops represent the company's consumer range, and the Aspire 1410-74G25n is a CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) laptop that offers fantastic value for money. The Acer Aspire 1410-74G25n sets a very high bar for the other laptops on test, and the excellent battery life will be a clincher for many buyers. If you're after power, however, we suggest you check out the Lenovo G550.

Acer: Nel 1976, l'azienda è stata fondata a Taiwan con il nome Multitech e nel 1987 è stata ribattezzata Acer o Acer Group. La gamma di prodotti comprende, ad esempio, laptop, tablet, smartphone, desktop, monitor, TV e periferiche per computer. Dal 2007, il gruppo si è fuso con Gateway Inc. e Packard Bell, che commercializzano anche le proprie linee di prodotti per laptop.

I computer Acer sono progettati per una varietà di scopi, inclusi ultrabook per uso mobile, laptop da gioco per giocatori, opzioni convenienti per le attività quotidiane e laptop convertibili 2 in 1 per la versatilità. Il portafoglio di prodotti Acer comprende anche tablet che offrono capacità informatiche portatili e multimediali.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.

Intel Core 2 Solo:

SU3500: Processore single core ad efficienza energetica per piccoli subnotebooks che si basa sul core Penryn ed include tutte le (come Virtualizzazione, C6 state, ...). Le prestazioni dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad un Athlon II Neo K125 da 1.7 GHz.

Intel Celeron M: E' un Pentium M con un livello di 2 Cache dimezzato e limitato su FSB 400. La caratteristica di questo processore è la velocità, che è notevolmente inferiore rispetto ad un equivalente Pentium M. Tuttavia non riesce a modificare la velocità dinamicamente come il Pentium M e di conseguenza richiede anche in assenza di carico maggiore energia. E' disponibile anche nella versione basso voltaggio con un consumo di corrente estremamente contenuto.

743: Processore ultra Low Voltage (ULV) per subnotebooks piccoli e sottili. Non supporta la Speedstep (maggiori consumi di energia in modalità di riposo), 64 Bit, e la Virtualization (VT-x).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
