EN→IT Archive.org versionFrom its arrival to our labs to the time where we had to pack it up for return, the Sony VAIO VGN-Z17GN has definitely lived up to our expectations. Its sleek design and attractive looks helped cement our opinion of this drool-worthy notebook, though we would like to point out that it's not 100% perfect (close though). From its cylindrical spine to the isolated keyboard design to the carbon fiber casing, the VGN-Z17GN is well, one heck of a notebook. We're still none too happy about the flimsy feeling screen, but with care, accidents can be avoided. Performance too is another good thing the VGN-Z17GN has in its favor. Our benchmarks showed the unit getting pretty decent scores with a slight oddity with regard to the Quake 4 benchmark.

There are many 13” laptops such as the Dell XPS13, but it is not nearly as light as this product. All in all we are extremely pleased. This laptop definitely lived up to its name, as the executive laptop. We would have liked a better video card as this card is a little out of date now.

Sony: Sony Corporation è una delle più grandi aziende di elettronica giapponesi. L'azienda è stata fondata nel 1946 con un nome diverso e inizialmente produceva cuociriso. L'azienda ha lanciato la prima radio a transistor. Nel 1958, la società fu ribattezzata Sony. Sony è una combinazione della parola latina sonus (suono) e della parola inglese sonny (ragazzino). Oggi il suo core business è l'elettronica di consumo. L'azienda è impegnata nello sviluppo, progettazione, produzione e vendita di apparecchiature elettroniche, strumenti, dispositivi, console di gioco e software. Sony opera nei seguenti segmenti: giochi e servizi di rete, musica, immagini, home entertainment e audio, prodotti e soluzioni di imaging, comunicazioni mobili, semiconduttori, servizi finanziari e altri.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Confrontata con la 9300M G, la GS ha solo 8 unified shaders con un clock più alto. Perciò le performance, secondo Nvidia, sono simili. Supporta Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost e HybridPower) con Nvidia 9100M G e PureVideo HD (VP3).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M G: Il chip 8400M GS migliorato, prodotto con una tecnologia a 65nm ed ha prestazioni lievemente superiori grazie a qualche ottimizzazioni di carattere minore.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
P9500: La P9500 è una veloce CPU dual core di classe media per portatili ed è di base una Core 2 Duo T9400 con solo 25 Watt di TDP.
P9600: La P9600 è una CPU dual-core di media classe della serie Core 2 Duo ed è simile alla T9550 (ad eccezione del minor TDP di 25 contro 35W). Le prestazioni della P9600 dovrebbero essere sufficienti per la maggior parte delle applicazioni e per i giochi del 2009.
P9700: CPU dual core molto veloce e con 28 Watt di TDP anche molto efficiente dal punto di vista energetico. Rispetto ad altri modelli P, la P9700 offre 6MB di level 2 cache.
P8800: Processore dual core di fascia media con 3 MB di level 3 cache ed una TDP da 25 Watt.
P8700: Processore dual core di classe media con 3 MB di level 3 cache ed un TDP da 25 Watt.
