Every convertible design has its trade-offs but the XPS 13 2-in-1 is the most attractive take we’ve seen on the idea. Dell has created an uncompromising laptop that just happens to also offer the convenient option of flipping around into tent or tablet mode. Of course, if you have no use for the folding design, you can save money by choosing a regular Dell XPS 13 or a Surface Laptop with a taller, sharper screen. Conversely, if you plan to use tablet mode on a regular basis, you might find the Surface Pro 7 suits you better: it’s lighter and doesn’t have a keyboard sticking out of the back. But for many users, we suspect the idea of a high-quality touchscreen system that can occasionally be transformed into other modes will hit the sweet spot. Even if you’d usually turn your nose up at a convertible, you might find it hard to resist the charms of this fast, stylish and portable machine.

Thanks to all that new tech, Dell's latest represents a substantial shift in the age-old performance/mobility trade-off. The CPU performance gains over Whiskey Lake-based 8th generation Intel processors are significant and meaningful. However, pairing those gains with significantly enhanced efficiency is downright impressive. Add to that a near-doubling of performance in graphical tasks, and there's a ton to love about the new Dell XPS 13 7390. This is the first time in quite a while that you can get more of both without taking a second mortgage out on your home. On top of that, this system is a real looker and very lightweight while being durable and versatile. If you've been hanging onto an older business-class notebook, it's time to consider and upgrade. To sum up this laptop's performance with Intel 10th Gen Core CPUs we'll borrow a line from Seinfeld: they're here and they're spectacular.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is possibly the best 13-inch convertible on the market, hands down. It solves some major pain points of previous generations, mainly having to do with performance. Of course, the webcam finally being above the display instead of beneath it is a big plus. My two biggest complaints are that it doesn't ship with the pen, and that there's no IR camera. For the pen, it's a real shame that a premium PC like this doesn't come with it. I'd expect that kind of cost-cutting from an Inspiron, but not an XPS. Of course, Microsoft sells the pen separately on Surface PCs too, so I guess this is acceptable. The bit about the IR camera isn't a big deal to me. It has a fingerprint sensor, and frankly, I'm only logging into the PC once per session.

The body is made out of a single block of aluminium. There are two Thunderbolt 3 ports and built-in Wi-Fi 6 as well as a microSD card slot and 3.5mm audio socket.

Il risultato è un convertibile da viaggio con uno dei display più luminosi e ben calibrati che abbiamo visto per la sua categoria. Sfortunatamente, dovrete rinunciare ad alcuni upgrade lungo il percorso che potrebbero avere un impatto sulla longevità.

Con l'AMD Ryzen mobile che finalmente sta recuperando il ritardo rispetto alla serie ULV Core U di Intel, tutti gli occhi sono stati puntati su Ice Lake e Comet Lake-U per vedere come Intel risponderà. La pressione è stata esercitata su Dell per lanciarlo con la sua seconda generazione XPS 13 2-in-1, soprattutto perché è il primo ad essere dotato di Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7. L'ammiraglia convertibile grosso modo funziona bene ma con alcune avvertenze.

The six-core XPS 13 is a strange computer. It feels like a holdover until something better is available in both design and internals. That first part probably isn’t too far off, since CES 2020 is just about a month away, but it’s hard to say how long it will be before Intel introduces Ice Lake chips that have six cores, a 10-nanometer die, and the improved Iris Plus Graphics. i3-1005G1: Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato su Ice-Lake per computer portatili sottili e leggeri. Integrato due core Sunnycove con clock a 1,2 - 3,4 GHz che supportano l'Hyperthreading (4 thread). Inoltre, il SoC integra una scheda grafica UHD Graphics G1 entry level e Wifi 6 / Thunderbolt parzialmente integrati. Il chip è prodotto nel moderno processo a 10nm alla Intel.
Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10710U: Processore esadecimale a bassa potenza basato su Comet Lake (tecnicamente identico a Whiskey Lake e ancora prodotto in 14nm++). I core della CPU possono clockare tra 1,1 e 4,7 GHz (tutti e 6 i core a 4,1 GHz max.) con HyperThreading (12 thread). Il controller di memoria integrato supporta DDR4-2666 e utilizzando cTDP su/giù le prestazioni possono essere regolate dall'OEM (12,5 - 25 Watt possibili, 15W di default).
i5-10210U: Processore quad-core a bassa potenza basato su Comet Lake (tecnicamente identico a Whiskey Lake e ancora prodotto in 14nm++). I core della CPU possono clockare tra 1,6 e 4,2 GHz (tutti e 4 i core a 3,9 GHz max.) con HyperThreading (8 thread). Il controller di memoria integrato supporta DDR4-2666 e utilizzando cTDP su/giù le prestazioni possono essere regolate dall'OEM (10 - 25 Watt possibili, 15W di default). Rispetto al più veloce i5-10510U, la cache di livello 3 è stata ridotta da 8 a 6 MB.
