I 2700 euro necessari per un Core i9 non sono tanti nel paragone con la concorrenza e per la dotazione, ma restano un listino possibile solo a certi utenti, e di solito a queste cifre si pretende l’eccellenza. ScreenPad a parte, ZenBook Pro UX580 non riesce a superare in tutto i rivali: la concorrenza è tosta e il livello si è alzato vertiginosamente in questi anni.

ASUS ha puntato al top con ZenBook Pro 15. Il processore più potente sulla piazza, un ampio schermo 4K, una scheda video adatta a lavorare ed anche per giocare. E siccome il tris non bastava, ASUS ha calato il poker con lo Screenpad. All in, quindi? Non proprio. Lo Screenpad si è confermato utile, in particolare in alcuni frangenti, e non un mero esercizio di stile, anche se la sua tenuta nel corso del tempo resta da valutare. Di contro però, l'impatto di un secondo schermo da 5'' FHD sull'autonomia si fa sentire, e per di più quella di ZenBook Pro 15 non è troppo elevata a prescindere. L'Intel i9 si rivela infatti un'arma a doppio taglio: le prestazioni ci sarebbero, solo che contenerne le temperature non è facile, e ne accuserete il colpo più nei lavori di elaborazione che con i giochi 3D. Per fortuna sono in arrivo altre varianti di ZenBook Pro 15, che potrebbero consentire di non rinunciare alle performance e di risparmiare qualcosa. E visto il prezzo di lancio di questo modello, non è una cattiva idea.

On paper, the Zenbook Pro UX580 is a stunning computer for content creators and graphics professionals: it looks great, is built well, it comes with a wide-gamut 4K touchscreen and an excellent hardware configuration with the mobile Coffee Lake Core i9 processor, GTX 1050 Ti graphics and fast storage. In real life, this 2018 update inherits all the quirks of the 2017 models, and I'm not sure that interesting LCD screen placed beneath the trackpad and the aggressive pricing are enough to justify picking this over the competition.
