If I were to spend almost a lakh on a gaming laptop, I would definitely get this one by paying 10 percent extra, mainly for the looks and performance. Also, the 3D gaming on this machine is way better on this one.

The lower screen resolution meant the Asus ROG G53JW-IX162V sailed through next generation 3D games. We'd love to see what this could do in 3D on a full HD screen because it romped in with over 40FPS on Call of Duty: Black Ops at 1366 x 768. We even got 52FPS with everything maxxed on 2D. Shame about the average 112 minutes battery life.

I have to give it to ASUS; the G53SW made a great first impression and continued to exceed my expectations on pretty much every front. Yes, the 1366×768 resolution is disappointing, but the 120Hz screen and impressive performance by the GTX 460m at full to high settings is equally impressive. All components inside are topnotch (especially the Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM) and the overall performance of the notebook is exceptional compared to other notebooks in a similar price range.

All-in-all, ASUS' G53SX gaming notebook has impressed me a lot. If I were in the market for a "real" gaming notebook, I'd have no hesitation in choosing this one given what it offers at its price-point. I do still hate the lack of a BD-ROM, but that's a personal want; yours may be totally different.

One area that needs improvement is the keyboard; it has a poor feel with little tactile feedback. On the plus side it is backlit and has a separate numeric keypad. Something else to keep in mind with this notebook is that it is about as large and heavier than most 17.3-inch notebooks despite housing a 15.6-inch screen - travelers be warned.

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

720QM: Il Core i7-720QM è il Core i7 Quad più lento del 2009 ed ha un clock tra 1.6 e 2.8 GHz (grazie al Turbo Mode). Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7, la 720QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
740QM: Il Core i7-740QM è una CPU quad-core di fascia alta per portatili (nel 2010) con un clock rate di base relativamente contenuto ed una elevata frequenza massima di Turbo Boost di 2.93 GHz (per un core). Pertanto, combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7 mobile, la 740QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
2630QM: Veloce processore Quad-core basato sulla architettura Sandy Bridge con scheda grafica integrata e controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3.
2670QM: Veloce processore quad-core con clock da 2.2-3.1 GHz basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3.
Intel Core i5:
460M: L'Intel Core i5-460M è una CPU dual core di fascia alta per portatili ed ha un clock (grazie al Turbo Mode) da 2.53 a 2.8 GHz. Ogni core si basa sulla micro architettura Nehalem (Westemere). L'hyperthreading consente alla CPU Dual Core di gestire 4 threads contemporaneamente (per un miglior utilizzo della pipeline).
480M: Il Core i5-480M ha solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-620M) ed un clock tra 2.66-2.9 GHz (Turbo Mode). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, 4 threads possono essere gestiti simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (GMA HD) ed un controller di memoria DDR3.
2410M: Processore dual-core basato sulla architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) e la GPU da 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).

Normalmente i portatili con diagonale da 17” pesano di più. Il peso è un po' eccessivo per un portatile da 15” ma accettabile per dispositivi destinati ad un utilizzo stazionario.

Questo peso è tipico per portatili desktop-replacement con displays da 17” con scarso utilizzo mobile.
