60% HP ProBook 4 G1a review: A no-frills business machine for the average office

This is a no-frills laptop, with a lot of its appeal tied up in being durable, reliable, and affordable. The AI capabilities are low, the battery is merely OK, and the display is not worth mentioning. But it does look good, runs smoothly, and does offer a decent typing experience. If you have an office full of people needing affordable machines that don't scratch easily, have all the juice their workloads need, the ProBook 4 is a great option. It's not exactly fun, but it is a serious business machine.

80% Reviewing the HP ProBook 4 G1a, I discovered that it's a punchy platform at an attractive price for corporations, but it's not for power users

While I wasn’t a massive fan of the touchpad on this machine, the rest of this design is fine for the majority of laptop users. The only other caveat to its specification is the lack of USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, which is a deliberate choice made by HP. What I liked was that the memory modules allow for upgrades, which could extend the working life of this hardware if it isn’t destroyed in other ways.There is only one M.2 slot, meaning that to transition to more storage will require a USB caddy to transfer the OS, but you could put 4TB in here reasonably easily.A year or two back, the performance on this machine would have been remarkable, but the advent of Intel Ultra 200 series and the AMD Ryzen AI 300 chips relegate it somewhat.

HP: Fondata nel 1939, l'azienda statunitense è un importante produttore di server e stampanti e una delle aziende IT leader a livello mondiale. Fino al 2015, la società si chiamava Hewlett-Packard Company. Dopo una scissione, la divisione computer è stata ribattezzata HP Inc.

Nel 2023, HP deteneva una quota di mercato approssimativa del 22% delle vendite globali di PC, diventando così il numero 2 dopo Lenovo.

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

AMD Radeon 780M:

Scheda grafica integrata nelle APU della serie mobile Ryzen 7040 basata sull'architettura RDNA3 con 12 CUs (= 768 shaders) ed una velocità clock fino a 3 GHz.

Intel Graphics 4-Core iGPU (Arrow Lake): Scheda grafica integrata basata sull'architettura Xe LPG (simile alle GPU Arc dedicate, ma con un focus sull'efficienza). Offre 4 core Xe (64 motori vettoriali Xe) e 4 unità di ray-tracing.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):

R7 250: Un potente processore per computer portatili (APU) della famiglia Hawk Point. Non si tratta di un'APU completamente nuova; l'R7 250 è invece un R7 8840U sotto mentite spoglie. I suoi otto core Zen 4 funzionano da 3,3 GHz a 5,1 GHz e sono abilitati all'SMT per un totale di 16 thread di elaborazione.

Intel Arrow Lake:

Ultra 5 225U: Un chip Meteor Lake di fascia media che ha debuttato nel dicembre 2023. Questo processore Core Ultra di 1a generazione è arrivato a sostituire i processori Core di 13a generazione; ha 12 core (8 + 2 + 8) e 14 thread a disposizione. I core Performance, che sono 2, funzionano fino a 4,4 GHz, mentre i core Efficient, che sono 10 (8 core principali più 2 extra che si trovano nella Low Power Island), funzionano fino a 3,6 GHz. L'Intel Arc Graphics a 4 core, appena sfornato, funge da adattatore grafico integrato - funziona fino a 1,90 GHz - e c'è anche una serie di altre nuovissime tecnologie in offerta, tra cui la NPU AI Boost integrata con due motori Gen 3 per l'accelerazione hardware dei carichi di lavoro AI. Sono presenti anche vPro Enterprise e funzioni incentrate sul business, come la cancellazione remota della piattaforma. Il consumo energetico di base di questo processore per notebook è di 15 W, mentre il consumo massimo di energia Turbo raccomandato da Intel è di 57 W.
