Asus has updated its natty little 13-inch 2-in-1 convertible laptop, the Asus ROG Flow X13, with the very latest available hardware. That means AMD's fabulous Phoenix APU architecture in its full Ryzen 9 7940HS spec with eight CPU cores and a pretty powerful integrated GPU. However, you can also opt for one of three Nvidia dedicated graphics chips, the GeForce RTX 4050, 4060, or 4070 mobile GPUs. Whichever graphics solution you go for, it outputs to a 13.4-inch display, in this case with a 2,560 by 1,600-pixel resolution and 165Hz refresh, though a 1080p option is available. It's a touch-enabled display with a 360-degree hinge that supports various modes including tent and tablet. If that's not good enough, you can also opt for an even more powerful GPU via the Asus XG Mobile external graphics box that hooks up courtesy of a dedicated I/O port.

Having used this 2023 Asus ROG Flow X13 for the last months, I still find it unmatched by any other device available out there as an all-purpose compact and lightweight laptop. However, this generation is a major refinement of the past design, with a significant boost in performance and internal cooling, with updated inputs and IO, with a larger battery, and a display that makes a lot more sense for this format and hardware. All these on top of the versatile 360 convertible format and classy black design. It doesn't come cheap, though, but at least the series is offered in a wide range of configurations that should suit most needs.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 is the culmination of the company’s journey to make a stellar ultra portable gaming laptop — lightweight and sleek, while also packing an impressive amount of power. Sure, there are other gaming laptops with better spec sheets and a lower price. But none of these come anywhere near the refined, premium aesthetic of the ROG Flow X13, and neither do they have the same portability. If you are looking for a great gaming machine that is capable of keeping up with your processor-intensive work, while also taking up no more room in your bag than a13-inch MacBook Pro, this is the machine for you.

90% ASUS ROG Flow X13 2023 review: hands down the best portable 13-inch gaming notebook

The original ROG Flow X13 2021 was an attempt to create a whole new breed of thin and light gaming laptops. Not only has ASUS managed to be successful in this mission, it continues to further improve and refine the product. While it is true that the 2023 ROG Flow X13 is not as powerful as a full-fledged gaming laptop, there is not a single laptop in its category that can match up. For that, ASUS definitely gets applause from my end. The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor is a solid choice, offering a solid combination of performance and efficiency. The low-powered Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU is not super powerful, but I was pretty satisfied with the gaming performance I was able to squeeze out of it. Having support for an external GPU (ROG XG Mobile) is definitely a plus point, but the added cost doesn’t sound very economical.

NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU:

Scheda grafica di fascia alta per laptop basata sull'architettura Ada Lovelace. Offre 8 GB GDDR6 (128 Bit) ed è configurabile con un TGP di 35 - 115 W (+ Dynamic Boost).

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
