EN→IT Archive.org versionThe Acer Aspire D255 is something of a mixed blessing, as many netbooks are. Lightweight and with good battery life, it is annoyingly slow at times and awkward to use. The dual-boot mode is interesting, and no doubt the future for many devices, but there seems no clear use for it at present beyond a way of siloing off different types of data between the two. The price is good but not cheap enough compared to other netbooks to really stand out.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe Acer Aspire One D255 isn’t the best looking netbook out there, but like Acer netbooks we’ve seen in the past, it does incorporate some of the newest hardware at a price that’s hard to beat. The partnering of Android with Windows 7 still doesn’t appeal to us. The Android OS is tempting but ultimately doesn’t really offer enough to get excited about. We’d rather boot straight into Windows 7, which offers much better performance. Fortunately Acer offer simple control over the Android side of things so you can opt to disable it if you like.
Otherwise the build quality and choice of materials isn’t premium, but the performance overall is great for a compact device to take on the road with you.

There's nothing new in the Acer Aspire One D255 netbook compared to its 10-inch predecessors - Acer Aspire One 532h and Acer Aspire One D260 - in terms of hardware, but it comes with Google Android 1.6 dual-booting with Windows 7 Starter Edition.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Atom:
La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).
N550: Dual core Atom con un TDP di appena 8.5 Watt. A causa della limitata velocità clock da 1.5 GHz potrebbe essere anche più lento di una CPU Atom N465.
