La serie di notebook Sony VAIO VPC-CW si caratterizza per un design particolarmente affascinante e accattivante ma abbastanza competitivo anche dal punto di vista delle funzioni. Presenta, infatti, una scheda grafica NVIDIA, un hard disk buono considerando le dimensioni, una RAM abbondante, l’ingresso HDMI e quello TV e tutta una serie di utili funzioni. Come unici lati negativi possiamo menzionare solo la qualità della webcam e l’esiguo numero di schede di memoria supportate.

If you're on the lookout for an affordable laptop, Sony probably won't be the first manufacturer on your list. Given its portable dimensions, it's something of a shame that the VPCCW1S1E doesn't offer more in the way of battery life. Aside from this, there's very little wrong with Sony's latest VAIO. It's reasonably powerful, capable of handling the latest 3D games and, most important of all, is well priced.

Sony’s Vaio laptops aren’t perhaps best-known for their good value, but with an Intel Core 2 Duo P7450, Nvidia GeForce 230M graphics and a £699 price tag, this latest model seems to buck the trend. Minor niggles aside, if you’re looking for a compact laptop that’s not short in the performance department, the VPCCW1S1E certainly delivers the goods. Its mediocre battery life is a shame and may be enough to dissuade more than a few potential buyers, but overall it’s very impressive little laptop from Sony.

We like the overall design and build of the Sony VAIO CW Series laptops, as well as the fact that Sony has installed plenty of imaging and video editing software to get you up and running straight away. Plenty of manufacturers offer their laptops in a range of colours, but Sony has been at it for longer than most. One can trace this all the way back to the C Series in February 2007, which was replaced by the CR Series in August that year and then the CS Series last year. Sony appears to have righted the wrongs of the outgoing CS Series. This is a very capable laptop that strikes a great balance between performance, affordability and style. Anyone looking for a powerful all-rounder with a little personality should find it the perfect tonic.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M: La Nividia GeForce GT 230M è una scheda grafica DirectX 10.1 per portatili che si basa su un core GT216. Grazie ai 48 shader cores, dovrebbe avere prestazioni migliori rispetto alla GT 130M ed essendo realizzata in 40nm i consumi dovrebbero essere invariati.
Il core della GT230M è internamente chiamato GT216 e stando a quanto dichiara Nvidia si basa sulla architettura di fascia alta per desktop (GTX 200 series). Inoltre, Nvidia ha migliorato la micro-architettura per un ulteriore risparmio energetico e migliori prestazioni. Pertanto, le prestazioni per unità shader dovrebbero essere leggermente migliorati rispetto alla generazione precedente.

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.

14.0": I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.

2.29 kg: Questo portatile è più leggero rispetto alla media di tutti i notebooks. Ma è troppo pesante per essere un sub-notebooks.
