And battery life could be improved upon, along with perhaps an SSD option for the top of the line model. But in our opinion, this product is the sweet spot for enthusiasts who want the most laptop for their moolah, without having to take on a second mortgage.

The 8GB of RAM and the pair of 500GB hard drives increase the price without adding much value. We also would have liked to see whether or not a dual-core Core i7-620M would have been a better bet for gaming too, as this CPU runs at a much higher frequency than the quad-core CPU Asus specified.

We cranked all settings to high on 1920x1080 and had no lag at all, although it lowered frame-rates to a level just about playable - but still higher than many gaming laptops we've seen. This means that the G73J can play games COD Modern Warfare 2 without even cocking an eyebrow. But, it also shows that it’s only human after all.

One year later, the G73 is still kicking, but I have to say that I’m ready for something new. Familiarity may not be breeding contempt yet, but that love at first sight feeling is definitely fading. If you purchased the original G73JH, there’s no real reason to upgrade to the G73SW for games. For CPU-intensive applications, Sandy Bridge is still an awesome upgrade from Clarksfield, but I’ve seen other SNB designs that impress me more in some areas.

Also, a dedicated depth control button for the 3D would have been nice since not all games or videos work well at one setting. If you are in the market for the ultimate gaming notebook and have the budget then look no further, the G73JW should be right on the top of your list.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, è una azienda multinazionale Taiwanese, che produce schede madre, schede grafiche, drives ottici, PDAs, monitors, portatili, servers, prodotti per il networking, telefoni cellulari, cases per computer, componenti per computer, e sistemi di raffreddamento per computer. I ricavi aziendali nel 2007 hanno raggiunto i 6.9 miliardi di dollari. ASUS produce anche componenti per altre aziende. L'Eee PC ha lanciato il boom dei netbook nel 2008.
Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870: Scheda grafica DirectX 11 di fascia alta basata sulla desktop HD5770. Grazie al memory bus da 128 Bit, solo con memoria GDDR5 molto veloce (altrimenti si sarebbe creato un collo di bottiglia).
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M: Scheda grafica di fascia alta directX 11 basata sul chip GF106 che utilizza memoria grafica GDDR5 (1.5 GB).

Intel Core i5:
520M: Il Core i5-520M ha solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-640M) ed un clock tra 2.4-2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto è inclusa anche una scheda grafica (GMA HD 3150) ed un controller memoria DDR3.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: Il Core i7-720QM è il Core i7 Quad più lento del 2009 ed ha un clock tra 1.6 e 2.8 GHz (grazie al Turbo Mode). Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7, la 720QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
920XM: La CPU più veloce del 2009 nei portatili Core i7 ma con un TDP di 55 Watt che la rende assetata di energia. Grazie al Turbo Mode, la CPU può girare fino a 3.2 GHz. A causa dell'Extreme tag, il moltiplicatore non è bloccato, e di conseguenza la CPU va facilmente in overclock.
740QM: Il Core i7-740QM è una CPU quad-core di fascia alta per portatili (nel 2010) con un clock rate di base relativamente contenuto ed una elevata frequenza massima di Turbo Boost di 2.93 GHz (per un core). Pertanto, combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7 mobile, la 740QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
2630QM: Veloce processore Quad-core basato sulla architettura Sandy Bridge con scheda grafica integrata e controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3.
17.0: Allo stesso tempo i display da 17 pollici sono offerti più frequentemente come formato standard per i desktop-replacements. I portatili DTR non sono facili da trasportare, richiedono molta più energia ma in compenso i testi possono essere letti facilmente e le risoluzioni elevate non sono problematiche. I DTR sono principalmente destinati ad un utilizzo stazionario da scrivania, dove il peso ed i consumi non sono rilevanti.
