On the other hand, when you find a netbook which performs as well as an ultra-portable laptop, with almost the same form factor, at a much lower price, it's very hard to resist. We'd say that at Rs 29,000, it's a good pick! But again, this does not apply to someone who's looking for a laptop , where, you'd obviously look for performance as opposed to portability. But if you're looking for a good balance of both, this one offers good value for money.

Il nuovo ASUS 1201HA getta nuova luce sul mercato dei netbook proponendosi come ponte di collegamento del segmento con quello di classe superiore cui appartengono i notebook. Dal punto di vista ergonomico e costruttivo, possiamo considerare senz’altro l’obiettivo centrato.
Tuttavia, oltre a nuove luci, anche nuove ombre si affacciano sui potenziali utenti che potrebbero acquistarlo: le prestazioni pure, sono abbastanza scarse, soprattutto rispetto ad un vero notebook. E’ chiaro quindi che il prodotto non va a bussare alla porta di chi voglia sostituire il proprio notebook con uno più leggero e meno ingombrante, ma bensì strizza l’occhio a quanti fino ad ora avevano guardato i netbook con curiosità, pur ritenendoli inadeguati alle loro esigenze per questioni di ergonomia e comfort. I punti di forza di questo nuovo nato in casa ASUS, sono senz’altro l’ampio schermo, che rende più agevole la navigazione, e l’ottimo piano tastiera, davvero ben studiato, e che sicuramente sarà un fattore determinante nella scelta di molti in cerca di una comodità d’uso di classe superiore rispetto ai netbook più diffusi. L’eccellente touchpad multitouch completa il quadro, rivelandosi un vero piacere da usare.

Had Optimus come on this machine, we can imagine things turning out a lot better for the 1201PN. If we could switch off the discrete GPU and use the IGP when needed, we suspect battery life figures would've been far better. And what's a little bothersome, aside from the lack of Optimus.

Asus and Nvidia deserve credit for improving on on the best 12-inch multimedia netbook. For $499, the Eee PC 1201PN offers longer battery life and better graphics performance than its predecessor. However, this system's CPU often feels like a bottleneck compared to the 1201N's dual-core CPU, as we often had to wait for that Windows 7 circle to stop spinning. We also want Asus to banish its stiff touch button in favor of something more comfortable. Overall, the 1201PN is a good value, but some may prefer the $599 ThinkPad X100e, which offers better ergonomics, more processing power, and slightly longer battery life (though higher temps and no HDMI). The Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ offers even better endurance, but weak graphics. Still, if you're on a budget, this Eee PC is a good bet. Or wait until September, when Asus will offer a mobile dual-core version of this machine paired with Nvidia's Optimus technology (which automatically switches between integrated and discrete graphics).

For $499, the Eee PC 1201PN offers longer battery life and better graphics performance than its predecessor. However, this system's CPU often feels like a bottleneck compared to the 1201N's dual-core CPU, as we often had to wait for that Windows 7 circle to stop spinning. We also want Asus to banish its stiff touch button in favor of something more comfortable. Overall, the 1201PN is a good value, but some may prefer the $599 ThinkPad X100e, which offers better ergonomics, more processing power, and slightly longer battery life (though higher temps and no HDMI). The Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ offers even better endurance, but weak graphics. Still, if you're on a budget, this Eee PC is a good bet. Or wait until September, when Asus will offer a mobile dual-core version of this machine paired with Nvidia's Optimus technology (which automatically switches between integrated and discrete graphics).

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, è una azienda multinazionale Taiwanese, che produce schede madre, schede grafiche, drives ottici, PDAs, monitors, portatili, servers, prodotti per il networking, telefoni cellulari, cases per computer, componenti per computer, e sistemi di raffreddamento per computer. I ricavi aziendali nel 2007 hanno raggiunto i 6.9 miliardi di dollari. ASUS produce anche componenti per altre aziende. L'Eee PC ha lanciato il boom dei netbook nel 2008.
Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (G) / ION (LE): Scheda grafica integrata a memoria condivisa. La trovate nei nuovi MacBook, MacBook Pro e MacBook Air. Conosciuta anche come GeForce 9400M G. Integrato trovate un processore PureVideo HD (VP3).
NVIDIA ION 2: ION2 è una scheda grafica GT218 per sistemi Pinetrail Atom (D510, D410, N450) con 8 o 16 shader cores in relazione alla piattaforma (10", 12", desktop). Paragonata alla ION 1, la ION 2 è una scheda grafica dedicata (collegata solo da una PCIe 1x grazie alle limitazioni Pinetrail) basata sulla GeForce 305M / 310M. Supporta la PureVideo HD per decodificare i videos HD.
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500:
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).
ATI Radeon HD 3200: Scheda grafica integrata (sul chipset RS780M) con memoria condivisa basata sul core HD 2400. Troviamo anche il motore video UVD che decodifica video HD. Inoltre, supporta Hybrid CrossfireX (per l'accelarazione) e PowerXpress (per risparmiare energia) con una scheda grafica dedicata della serie HD 3000.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Il nuovo core di grafica Intel® GMA 950 è un motore grafico intelligente e dai tempi di risposta rapidi integrato nel chipset presente sulla scheda madre. Non propriamente adatta per giocare.

Intel Atom:
La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).
Z520: CPU single core energeticamente efficiente con prestazioni molto contenute. Offre maggiori features (risparmio energetico, VT-x) rispetto alla serie N Atoms.
N270: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M.
N450: CPU Intel Atom per Netbooks con controller di memoria integrato e GPU GMA 3150. LE prestazioni del sistema dovrebbero essere solo minimamente superiori rispetto alla precedente combinazione Atom N280 / GMA 950.
AMD Athlon Neo:
MV-40: Lento processore single core per portatili piccoli e sottili. Leggermente più veloce rispetto ai sistemi Atom based ma il consumo energetico è più elevato.
12.1: Questo è un formato di display comune per i subnotebooks. La maggior parte dei netbooks hanno display più piccoli. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

Questo subnotebook è uno dei più leggeri di tutti i portatili e può essere trasportato con estrema semplicità. Difficilmente si trovano altri modelli in questa fascia di peso.
