Apart from the slightly larger screen, there’s very little to differentiate the Tecra R840 from the 13in competition. Thankfully, it excels in many other areas, including performance, battery life and connectivity. If you don’t mind carrying a little extra weight, it’s the ideal business laptop for the frequent traveller that can’t do without essentials such as an optical drive and desktop-level performance.

Toshiba's laptops tend to be designed for business users, but they are still suitable for home users. The Tecra R840 is at the top end of the company's business range. Several versions of the Toshiba Tecra R840 are available, but the R840-12F one we looked at is good value for people who want a serious computer that's powerful but portable.

Overall, we think the Toshiba is an incredible piece of equipment. It seems to have been built with care and has been designed with business customers in mind. Its power means it can be used as a desktop replacement (there's a docking station, should you require one) but it remains portable enough to carry around on trips. Really, we can't think of anything significant (except the price) that would put a potential buyer off. But of course, in these economic times the price is a huge part of any buying decision.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
