The Toshiba Satellite U840 is the latest consumer Ultrabook from the company and the first to offer a 14-inch display, which was nice and vibrant when we got the chance to see it in action. The hardware load-out is fairly typical for the latest generation of Ultrabooks, with a third-gen Intel Core processor and up 8GB RAM. There is a 32GB SSD to keep things speedy and 500GB of hard drive on offer.

Toshiba's 14in Ultrabook offers a good mix of light weight, thin design and useful features. It's a good all-round Ultrabook, but it could use a better screen and keyboard, as well as some tweaks to its build quality. It performed decently in our tests, but it comes with lots of pre-installed software that can sometimes get in the way -- be prepared to uninstall some stuff!

Toshiba’s Satellite U845 is a bit of a mixed bag. They ended up with a pretty solid notebook from a design point of view, which is an encouraging step in the right direction for Toshiba. I’m very hopeful that the level of design and build quality found in their tablets and Ultrabooks will trickle down to the rest of Toshiba’s lineup, and having a well designed Satellite is the first sign of that happening.

The Toshiba U840 is priced Rs. 53,500, which makes it quite an expensive purchase. If it were somewhere close to 40K, then I could have recommended it, but we have the issue with the keyboard and trackpad which is a big let down. The U840 had the potential to be a very good candidate for an Ultrabook but the high price and a few issues in critical areas together prove to be a damper. I’d say, give this one a miss.

The spec list is good, but it falls down in the more practical aspects. If you want something smaller and lighter than the average home laptop, but don't want to pay through the nose, it's a reasonable choice. But paying £150 more will get you a much better machine.

With the Satellite U845T-S4165, Toshiba has successfully combined fast Core i5 performance, an SSD and a touch screen for a reasonable price. Best of all, this Ultrabook lasts 7.5 hours on a charge, outlasting most other touch Ultrabooks. Although the keyboard literally falls short, this 14-inch Windows 8 notebook richly deserves its 4-star rating.

Best of all, this Ultrabook lasts 7.5 hours on a charge, outlasting most other touch Ultrabooks. Although the keyboard literally falls short, this 14-inch Windows 8 notebook richly deserves its 4-star rating.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation è un conglomerato o gruppo tecnologico giapponese. L'azienda è stata fondata nel 1939 e nel 1978 Toshiba è diventata il nome ufficiale dell'azienda. I prodotti e i servizi dell'azienda includono energia, sistemi di infrastrutture industriali e sociali, ascensori e scale mobili, componenti elettronici, semiconduttori, dischi rigidi, stampanti, batterie, illuminazione, logistica e tecnologia dell'informazione. Toshiba è stato uno dei maggiori produttori di personal computer, elettronica di consumo, elettrodomestici e apparecchiature mediche.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processore grafico high end tra i modelli Ivy Bridge. Offre una differente velocità clock nei diversi modelli di CPU (da ULV a desktop quad core) e di conseguenza con prestazioni variabili.

2467M: Processore ULV a risparmio energetico con clock tra 1.6-2.3 GHz grazie al Turbo Boost. Offre una HD 3000 integrata con clock tra 350 / 1150 MHz ed un controller di memoria DDR3-1333.
3317U: CPU ULV Ivy-Bridge-based del secondo quadrimestre 2012. Offre un core clock di 1.7 - 2.6 GHz ed una HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). Il TDP è di 17 W.
3337U: CPU ULV Ivy-Bridge-based del primo trimestre 2013. Offre un core clock da 1.8 - 2.7 GHz ed una GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1100 MHz). Il TDP è di 17 W.
Intel Core i3:
2377M: Processore ULV a risparmio energetico con un clock da 1.5 GHz senza Turbo boost. Offre una HD 3000 integrata con un clock da appena 350 / 1000 MHz ed un controller di memoria DDR3-1333.
3227U: CPU ULV Ivy-Bridge-based del primo quadrimestre 2013. Offre un core clock da 1.9 (senza Turbo Boost) ed una GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1100 MHz). Il TDP è di 17 W.
