Toshiba is the BMW of the laptop world. Its machines tend to be rather large and bulky, but they're solidly made and generally fun to use. Gaming isn't the forte of our version of the Toshiba Satellite L775, the L775-119. In most other areas, though, this is a fine 17.3-inch laptop, offering a great screen, comfortable keyboard and speedy performance.

At a discount price of $599, I am simply not pleased with this notebook for obvious reasons. The LCD panel doesn't perform well for modern standards, the CPU won't run at full Turbo speed, and the physical GPU advertised was a lie and doesn't exist. I'd say this notebook runs like an OLD Dual-Core with a faulty wireless adapter. The notebook handles 2D video performance for Blu-Ray playback fluidly with no skips or hiccups on a 17" display, and that's the ONLY reason to purchase it. It's essentially just a stable 17" Blu-ray player at a sub-par 1600x900 native resolution with the added bonus of bad viewing angles.

I won't lie, I was looking forward to doing this review as an opportunity to weigh in with my peers on Llano, and that's largely because I do think we've been a bit unfair to it and I see the value in it. Jarred's concern regarding AMD's Fusion APUs is a fair one: released right now they're alright, but they're really a year or two late. It's true, but I'm not convinced it's entirely fair.

Whether the Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7340 is an ideal laptop for you depends exclusively on your intentions. If all you care about are media and other entertainment-focused activities, it’s a terrific choice—its combination of graphics potential and a Blu-ray drive have you covered from both the gaming and movie-watching angles. But for any other reason, it’s a harder sell: Our Editors’ Choice models, the Asus U56E-BBL6 and Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066AJU, offer distinctly better performance for all non-gaming applications and they, along with the even more graphically inclined (and less expensive) Gateway NV55S05u have vastly superior battery life. If you know what you need and want, the L755D-S7340 deserves to be on your list of possibilities, but any of these other laptops would be better all-around buys.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation è un conglomerato o gruppo tecnologico giapponese. L'azienda è stata fondata nel 1939 e nel 1978 Toshiba è diventata il nome ufficiale dell'azienda. I prodotti e i servizi dell'azienda includono energia, sistemi di infrastrutture industriali e sociali, ascensori e scale mobili, componenti elettronici, semiconduttori, dischi rigidi, stampanti, batterie, illuminazione, logistica e tecnologia dell'informazione. Toshiba è stato uno dei maggiori produttori di personal computer, elettronica di consumo, elettrodomestici e apparecchiature mediche.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).

AMD Radeon HD 6520G:

Scheda grafica integrata nel processore (APUs Llano della serie A6) senza memoria grafica dedicata e solo 320 dei 400 shader cores.

AMD Radeon HD 6250: Scheda grafica integrata nel processore per netbook Ontario (i.e. C-50 e C-30) che sfrutta un decoder video UVD3 e non ha memoria dedicata.

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M: Basata sulla GeForce GT 425M con una velocità clock leggermente superiore.
