The $799 Best Buy model of the Toshiba Portege Z835 is an interesting proposition. It’s noticeably lighter than other Ultrabooks and the Macbook Air, features a surprisingly good array of ports and a backlit keyboard, and doesn’t skimp out on the SSD the way the similarly-priced Acer Apsire S3 does. On the other hand, the performance of the Core i3 processor isn’t up to the level of its contemporaries, the display quality is mediocre, and there’s bit too much flex in the screen – an annoying slight on an otherwise rigid machine. This is certainly an easier laptop to recommend than the Acer Ultrabook (the other sub-$1000 option), but not quite as likeable as the Asus Zenbook UX31E or Lenovo IdeaPad U300s.

It has solid build quality, a decent backlit keyboard, a good touchpad, six hours of battery life, and the characteristic light weight (2.4 lbs) and thinness we’ve come to expect from Ultrabooks. Where the Z835 stumbles is performance; the included 128GB SSD is exceptionally slow. The Intel Core i3 processor is bottom of the barrel but should have plenty of oomph for general usage. At $899 the Z835 undercuts existing Ultrabooks by $100 or more and makes for a very attractive choice. It is an ideal on-the-go companion and a tempting alternative to the Apple MacBook Air.

So far it sounds like a miracle machine, so what’s not to love? The keyboard isn’t too pretty, with nearly-no-travel keys and uneven backlighting that comes off looking cheap. The trackpad is nice, but the buttons are tiny and hard to press, as they’re both stiff and slightly recessed into the chassis, making them difficult to reach. My biggest complaint, though, has to be against the Z835’s lack of stability. I had far more than my fair share of inexplicable problems simply installing apps and more getting them to run successfully. While all the crashes were eventually recoverable, I found I wasted a lot of time troubleshooting issues I really shouldn’t have had to deal with at all.

It's insanely light at 2.48 lbs. and very thin. In short, it's a real pleasure to carry. Overall the Toshiba Portégé Z830 impressed me in every aspect of its design and performance. No matter where I went or who I showed it to, everybody wanted one. The price was the only factor that put down a lot of people. At nearly 4.5k the Toshiba Portégé Z830 is a good AED 850 more expensive than the Acer Aspire S3. That said, it’s still AED 1,150 cheaper than its nearest rival, the unibody and equally slim MacBook Pro 13 which has the same specs inside. So for those who want a true ultrabook experience, the Toshiba Portégé Z830 is a definite buy, despite the slightly high price tag.

The Toshiba Portégé Z830 is remarkably similar to the Toshiba Satellite Z830. However, it packs less memory and has a slower processor than its sibling, resulting in slower performance but 30 mins extra battery life. The only things it offers to justify the extra cost are software-based security features which may be useful to business users.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation è un conglomerato o gruppo tecnologico giapponese. L'azienda è stata fondata nel 1939 e nel 1978 Toshiba è diventata il nome ufficiale dell'azienda. I prodotti e i servizi dell'azienda includono energia, sistemi di infrastrutture industriali e sociali, ascensori e scale mobili, componenti elettronici, semiconduttori, dischi rigidi, stampanti, batterie, illuminazione, logistica e tecnologia dell'informazione. Toshiba è stato uno dei maggiori produttori di personal computer, elettronica di consumo, elettrodomestici e apparecchiature mediche.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Scheda grafica integrata nei processori Sandy Bridge Pentium e Celeron. Simile alla desktop HD Graphics 2000 e non connessa con il vecchio processore grafico Arrandale che ha lo stesso nome.

2467M: Processore ULV a risparmio energetico con clock tra 1.6-2.3 GHz grazie al Turbo Boost. Offre una HD 3000 integrata con clock tra 350 / 1150 MHz ed un controller di memoria DDR3-1333.

Intel Core i3:

2367M: Processore ULV a risparmio energetico con clock da 1.4 GHz senza Turbo boost. Offre una 3000 con clock da 350 / 1000 MHz integrata ed un controller di memoria DDR3-1333.

Intel Core i7:

2677M: Processore ULV a risparmio energetico con clock tra 1.8-2.9 GHz grazie al Turbo Boost. Offre una HD 3000 integrata con clock tra 350 / 1200 MHz e controller di memoria DDR3-1333.
