Slim, light and solid, if not particularly cheap, the NS310 isn’t a bad box of tricks for anyone wanting an ultra-portable mini laptop, but isn’t too worried about battery life. The searchlight-bright screen and glowing keyboard are useful additions to the netbook armoury and the whole thing is nailed together with Samsung’s customary thoroughness.

Beyond the minimal specs and cramped keyboard it's not that there's much actually wrong with the Samsung NS310 and we do like the design, although it may not appeal to everyone. But to get the good looks and the slim style, Samsung has sacrificed battery life and the performance is average for the price. Cute, shiny, with an unusually good screen for a netbook, the Samsung NS310 doesn't make the right compromises for most users.

Netbooks continue to be a useful solution; however this one nearly did not get reviewed. If you are in the market for a small Netbook mine had a rather nice wine red lid or course the screen surround was shiny black and the screen was reflective but as an entry level unit this could well be of interest.

Our punishing flat-out processor test gave 2 hrs 18 mins of battery life, where the Toshiba NB550 offers 4 hrs 23 mins. Moderate use will take that beyond four and a half hours, still a poor second to that NB550. For light document editing, the Samsung NS310 is good enough, but its main problem is that it doesn’t excel in any department.

Samsung's NS310 gets some things right. The keyboard is good and its backlight remains a rare feature in the netbook world. However, it fails in one too many core respects. Battery life is poor, the Atom-powered processor doesn't excel above much cheaper models and the price is just too high for us to stomach.

Samsung: Samsung Group è il più grande conglomerato sudcoreano ed è stato fondato nel 1938. Samsung Group impiegava 489.000 persone nel 2014 ed è una delle più grandi aziende al mondo in termini di fatturato e forza di mercato. Il nome Samsung significa "Tre stelle" in coreano e rappresenta i tre figli del fondatore dell'azienda. L'azienda nasce nel 1938 come negozio di alimentari. Con la sua controllata Samsung Electronics, fondata nel 1969, Samsung ha intrapreso la produzione di articoli elettrotecnici, concentrandosi fin dall'inizio sull'elettronica di consumo e sugli elettrodomestici. Altri rami in cui è attiva la grande società includono ingegneria meccanica, automobili (Hyundai), assicurazioni, commercio all'ingrosso, immobiliare e tempo libero. Samsung produce una vasta gamma di prodotti elettronici, inclusi smartphone, televisori, elettrodomestici e semiconduttori. La linea di smartphone Galaxy dell'azienda è una delle più popolari al mondo. Samsung è anche uno dei principali attori nel settore dei semiconduttori, producendo chip di memoria e processori per molti altri produttori di elettronica.

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N550: Dual core Atom con un TDP di appena 8.5 Watt. A causa della limitata velocità clock da 1.5 GHz potrebbe essere anche più lento di una CPU Atom N465.
