100% MSI Z17 Creator review: A big-screen creative powerhouse

The Z17 is one of the more successful efforts to combine desktop performance with a laptop form factor which makes it a highly recommendable workstation despite the high price tag. The display is arguably the Z17's star attraction, it really is very good indeed while the potent chipset can produce performance stronger than anything other than a very high-end gaming laptop. MSI could have made better use of the expansive deck for a bigger keyboard while adding more storage or RAM really shouldn't involve taking your laptop apart and the fact that you don't get a pen or a LAN adapter in the box seems parsimonious. But those are ultimately minor criticisms of what is a very impressive creative tool.

The MSI Creator Z17 is a slight vertical side-step forward for the Taiwanese manufacturer’s creative- and gaming-leaning line of high performance laptops. From the start, there’s a lot of improvement from what we saw in our MSI Creator Z16 review. The well-received 16:10 display with a 165Hz refresh rate gets stylus pen support which enhances its task capability (MSI touts the Creator Z17 as the world’s first 17-inch touch screen laptop with stylus support). Meanwhile, the laptop has some seriously powerful specs. A 12th-Gen Intel Core i9-12900H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB storage are all packed into this military-grade chassis weighing a bit under 8 pounds.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU:

Scheda grafica di fascia alta per laptop basata sul chip Ampere GA103S. Al momento del lancio all'inizio del 2022, la 3080 Ti è la scheda grafica per laptop più veloce sul mercato.

Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).
