ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 è uno dei portatili più potenti che potreste acquistare al momento. Il fatto che abbia due schermi, ed il peculiare design che ne consegue, è propedeutico ad un sistema di raffreddamento allo stato dell'arte, che consente di spingere sia il processore di AMD che la GPU di NVIDIA ai limiti del possibile per un notebook. In più lo ScreenPad Plus ha un posizionamento ottimizzato, e si rivela comodo in molte occasioni, aprendo scenari d'uso altrimenti impossibili. C'è però uno scotto da pagare, in termini di uso di tastiera e touchpad, di ingombro, e, non da ultimo, di prezzo. Prima che una tecnologia simile possa diventare mainstream ci vorranno infatti ancora (diversi) anni, putroppo.

L'ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 è un notevole sforzo di ingegneria che combina l'unicità dello schermo touch secondario ad altissima risoluzione con un'ottima ventilazione, una buona qualità costruttiva, un sistema audio valido, uno schermo principale eccellente e una potenza elevata, questo almeno per quanto riguarda il modello arrivato in redazione. Non tutto però è perfetto, a partire dalla webcam per arrivare al supporto da parte delle applicazioni e dei giochi per il touchscreen, ma parliamo comunque di un valore elevatissimo impacchettato in poco più di due centimetri di spessore. Non a caso il prezzo consigliato è superiore ai 4000€ per una configurazione che scivola nel lusso estremo. Ma è anche vero che abbiamo già visto portatili arrivare a cifre simili senza doppio schermo e senza la stessa qualità complessiva.

Having said that, if you want the best performance and money isn’t your main concern, I would strongly recommend purchasing this machine over rival brands. There are now just a handful of items on the market, outside the Zephyrus Duo 16, that are also outfitted with the 3080 Ti graphics card. However, even the most affordable one starts at $4,999 and does not have a secondary display like Duo 16.

Is the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16’s dual-screen setup a gimmick? Absolutely not. Maximising its useability does take a little while but, even after a few days with it, I could clearly see the benefits, especially as the design hasn’t resulted in too many compromises. The lack of any hand rest space below the keyboard is a bind if you regularly use your laptop away from a desk but, used on a desk, the layout is really little different from using a regular desktop keyboard. Moreover, the quality of those two displays, especially the trick 2K 240Hz, 4K 120Hz hybrid main screen, makes this machine an easy recommendation. The big issue is that very high price.

I had the pleasure of checking out the original Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo back when it originally launched (in a smaller 15-inch configuration) in 2020. At the time, Asus proudly declared it the world’s first dual-screen gaming laptop - a slightly loaded statement, since the manufacturer’s own Zenbook Pro Duo was already offering solid gaming performance in a twin-screen laptop. Still, for all the novelty the original Zephyrus Duo offered, it didn’t really impress me. The keyboard and trackpad were cramped together beneath the secondary screen, which felt poorly implemented at best. Gaming performance was great, sure, but poor speakers, an underdeveloped design, and noisy-ass fans all contributed to a less-than-stellar overall experience - a far cry from the best laptops. Fast-forward two years, though, and the Zephyrus Duo is back with a vengeance. Well, perhaps not vengeance exactly, but a bigger screen, better audio, and new internal components all mean that the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a big brother to the original laptop that means business.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU:

Scheda grafica di fascia alta per laptop basata sul chip Ampere GA103S. Al momento del lancio all'inizio del 2022, la 3080 Ti è la scheda grafica per laptop più veloce sul mercato.

Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).
