We wish it had better 3D chops, less bloatware, and some entertainment-centric controls to go with the Blu-ray drive. If you require more graphics muscle, consider spending an extra $100 for the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460, which has a switchable GPU (so you can choose between battery life and graphics performance with the press of a button) and delivers gaming-class 3D power on demand.

While its fast and beautiful, you cant equip this machine with discrete graphics, and its touchpad can be frustrating. If you dont mind carrying a little more weight, we recommend the $829 Samsung R580 or the $849 Dell Studio 15: they offer smoother touchpads and comparable performance for less money. If you prefer the sleeker design of the dv5t, save yourself some cash and skip the Blu-ray drive.

Equipped with an Intel Core i3 processor and a spacious 500GB hard drive, this laptop, available from Staples, doesn't particularly stand out in one area but does a lot of things pretty well. But since HP is marketing this as an entertainment laptop, the lack of a Blu-ray player is disappointing; more troubling is its touchpad issues.

The HP Pavilion dv5-2035dx is an AMD-based laptop that straddles the line between budget and mainstream laptops. We like the updated design and can tolerate the merely average performance, but the new touch pad is an exercise in frustration.

Nel 2023, HP deteneva una quota di mercato approssimativa del 22% delle vendite globali di PC, diventando così il numero 2 dopo Lenovo.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: La NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT è il successore DirectX 10 della GeForce Go 7600 GT per portatili. In relazione alla memoria grafica utilizzate ed alla velocità clock, le prestazioni si attestano tra la 7600 GT e la 7900 GS. Pertanto i giochi come Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, o F.E.A.R possono essere usati in modo fluido con dettagli elevati ad una risoluzione 1024 o simile.

ATI Radeon HD 4250: Scheda grafica integrata (nel chipset RS880M) per processori AMD con supporto Avivo HD e tecnicamente è una HD 4200 con un clock superiore.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
T9400: La T9400 è una veloce CPU dual core di classe media per portatili ed è di base una Core 2 Duo P9500 con un TDP superiore di 35 Watt.

AMD Turion II:
P520: CPU Dual-Core di livello base con un TDP of 25 Watt. Offre prestazioni simili ad un Core 2 Duo da 2.1 - 2.3 GHz ed ha 2 MB di Level 2 Cache.
