You might find yourself asking if you want to get something that might not run as long, but have more muscle (like, say, Dell's Studio 14z) or forgo a little bit of that power and save a few bucks with a plain ol' netbook. But final judgments are pending.

Though this notebook isn’t a multimedia powerhouse, it doesn’t need to be. Consumers who want a light, portable machine that won’t choke when taxed or die after a few hours without the power cord will appreciate this system. Though it isn’t as thin or as light as the MSI X340 (currently priced at $699), the UL30A easily outperforms it. The Acer Aspire Timeline 3810 is also a strong choice, and offers slightly better performance, but it costs $50 more and lasts about 2 hours less on a charge. The bottom line: At $799, the UL30A is a compelling value.

At just over $700 depending on configuration (our build had an MSRP of $799), it's really hard to not give this machine a serious look if you need a new ultraportable. This rig is far more capable and far more enjoyable to use than any netbook we've tested to date, even the ones that soared above the $500 mark. If you can save up a few more bucks, you'll thank yourself for snagging a CULV-based system over an Atom-based system. There's really no comparison when it comes down to it. We think a new bar has been set, and for just over $700, we think you'd be hard pressed to find a sleeker, more enjoyable rig to buy than the UL30.

Comes with very good looks and overall almost impeccable construction quality, decent autonomy and a good price for what it has to offer. It is actually quite hard to find a fault for the Asus UL30A . There are some minors ones i found though, but I’m quite picky and most won’t even notice them. All in all, i have to say again I’m really impressed by this device. From the chiclet style keyboard to the quality of the screen and the performance levels, everything is just as it should be. That’s why this UL30A is now on top of my ultra-portable notebooks list.

At $700, the system is still quite affordable yet provides a better experience with just as much battery life as some of the better netbooks. Some features were sacrificed for a lower price including a lower resolution webcam and a battery that gives the hinge side a fairly large profile. Overall though, it is a good system for the road warrior on a budget that doesn't want to spend on something like a MacBook Air.

The 13-inch 3.7-pound Asus UL30A-A1 is a low-cost, highly portable notebook with good looks and decent performance. We define an “ultraportable” as a notebook weighing less than four pounds, and typically, they have 12.1-inch screens, but since this one makes that weight requirement, it falls into ultraportable territory, with the extra inch of screen real estate as a bonus. With marathon-level battery life, this is one of the most portable notebooks we’ve seen. Its performance lags, but its $799 price puts it ahead of the pricey ultraportable pack.

While it’s not as small or light as a typical netbook, this 12.1 inch laptop has a larger screen and keyboard and it performs CPU-intensive tasks like transcoding video. And the UL20A’s not that much bigger or heavier than some netbooks. Weighing in at about 3.5 pounds, it’s just 0.3 pounds heavier than the Asus Eee PC 1000H 10 inch netbook I’ve been using for the last year.

For just a few dollars more than the original price of the UL20A, the new UL20FT gives you a powerful Core i3 processor, a new 16:9 widescreen display and a larger hard drive. That said, this is an "evolutionary" update and not a "revolutionary" upgrade to last year's 12-inch thin and light laptop. The UL20FT still uses weak integrated graphics and lacks any high-speed data ports such as USB 3.0, eSATA, or an ExpressCard slot. Most people can live without an optical drive today, but if you care about watching DVDs on a flight then it might bother you that this laptop lacks a DVD drive. Still, for less than $650 the ASUS UL20FT makes perfect sense for students or adults who want a compact, lightweight laptop that won't break the bank.

At just $650, it also makes it a nice step between a netbook and a more powerful full-featured laptop. Now ASUS just needs to fix the terrible trackpad button and up the RAM to a more reasonable 4GB.

However, the touchpad button is pretty awful, nearly ruining the overall experience. Plus, for $629, we would hope for more than 4.5 hours of endurance. When it comes to inexpensive 12-inch systems, we think the Asus Eee PC 1215N is a better value. It offers a much larger touchpad, more comfortable mouse button, and drastically better graphics performance for just $499. Sure, the UL20FT has a more premium feel and does a better job of resisting fingerprints, but we'd much rather carry around a cloth than an external mouse.

Con il marchio Asus, l'azienda produce un'ampia gamma di prodotti, tra cui laptop, desktop, schede madri, schede grafiche, monitor, smartphone e apparecchiature di rete , sistemi completi e componenti PC per utenti finali.
Con il marchio ROG (Republic of Gamers), ASUS produce laptop da gioco conosciuti dai giocatori per le loro potenti specifiche, schede grafiche dedicate, display ad alta frequenza di aggiornamento e sistemi di raffreddamento avanzati.
Oltre ai giochi, viene offerta un'ampia gamma di notebook per esigenze e budget diversi, dagli ultrabook ultrasottili e leggeri ai versatili convertibili 2 in 1 e alle opzioni economiche. Nel 2023, Asus deteneva una quota di mercato globale del 7% del mercato dei PC.
La soddisfazione del cliente per i notebook ASUS riguarda le prestazioni, le caratteristiche e il buon rapporto prezzo-prestazioni dei notebook ASUS. Tuttavia, come con qualsiasi marca, ci sono segnalazioni occasionali di problemi come surriscaldamento, compatibilità dei driver o problemi di qualità costruttiva.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Il core grafico dell'Intel GL40 e della GS40 sfrutta una GMA 4500MHD con un clock inferiore (400 contro 533 MHz). A causa della velocità inferiore del core, non c'è un supporto completo Blu-Ray Logo e le prestazioni di gioco sono leggermente inferiori.

Intel Core 2 Solo:
SU3500: Processore single core ad efficienza energetica per piccoli subnotebooks che si basa sul core Penryn ed include tutte le (come Virtualizzazione, C6 state, ...). Le prestazioni dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad un Athlon II Neo K125 da 1.7 GHz.
Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
SU7300: Processore dual core con clock lento e con un basso TDP da 10 Watt.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: Un ritorno del nome Pentium, sebbene sia un core Yonah. In fatti, è un processore dual Core con un ottimo rapporto prestazioni consumi.
SU4100: Processore dual core di fascia bassa per subnotebooks sottili e leggeri. A causa del nome Pentium, la CPU potrebbe avere meno funzioni di risparmio energetico rispetto ai processori Core 2 Duo.
Intel Celeron Dual-Core: La famiglia Intel Celeron Dual-Core consiste in CPUs dual core per portatili economici. Rispetto alla famiglia Celeron M single core il principale vantaggio (oltre al secondo core) è la funzione Enhanced Speedstep, che consente il downclock della CPU del notebook in modalità di riposo. Di conseguenza il consumo di energia può essere ridotto notevolmente. Rispetto ai processori Core (2) Duo o Pentium Dual-Core, il Celeron Cual-Core ha molto meno L2 Cache il che comporta prestazioni per clock inferiori.
SU2300: CPU dual core di fascia bassa per piccoli portatili. Offre prestazioni limitate a causa della bassa velocità clock ed anche per il fatto che nel brand Celeron alcune funzioni di risparmio energetico sono disabilitate.
Intel Core i3:
330UM: Il Core i3-330UM un processore energeticamente efficiente con voltaggio ultra low senza Turbo Boost e funzioni AES per portatili. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono comprese una scheda grafica integrata (Intel HD Graphics da 166-500 MHz) ed un controller di memoria DDR3-800.
