Il vero punto di svolta del laptop tuttavia è sicuramente la NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, una scheda video che garantisce delle prestazioni davvero di altissimo livello, con frequenza di 1.345 MHz a 100 W e 8 GB di memoria GDDR6 dedicata. Ciò che fa storcere il naso è ovviamente il prezzo: 2.439 euro per il modello di partenza con Intel Core i7-11800H e 16GB di RAM sono tanti anche per gli utenti più esigenti, e soprattutto superiori ad alternative con un hardware di pari livello. C'è da dire che il prodotto è un gioiellino a livello tecnologico, anche per via di peso e dimensioni inferiori al solito, nonché grazie a un design più sobrio di buona parte dei prodotti di questo tipo. Insomma, prezzo da top di gamma per un hardware davvero top di gamma, e se consideriamo lo sforzo di Asus nel mettere un hardware così potente in una scocca così compatta e rifinita, possiamo tranquillamente dire che è un prezzo giustificabile.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 may not be the very best in class when it comes to a performance vs price assessment, but it's certainly in the conversation – and it has enough about it besides its gaming capabilities to push it near the top of your shortlist if you're in the market for a gaming laptop. It's absolutely worth considering if you want a gaming laptop that looks good without being overly flashy. We did get a few glitches in terms of performance but overall the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 did very well in pushing out high frame rates on the latest titles. It's worth mentioning that the on-board software gives you plenty of flexibility when it comes to balancing performance, battery life, cooling and other elements, so you can decide what's most important to you at any time. Aside from the raw hardware specs, the laptop has got an excellent screen, plenty of ports, and a keyboard that's a pleasure to type on.

So, there you have it. I will repeat the same sentiment that I said about the Zephyrus G15: the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16, while not quite the thin and light portable powerhouse, is a gaming laptop that checks off all the right boxes, especially when it comes to productivity and gaming. If anything, it harkens back to a time before AMD jumped back into the gaming laptop scene with its Ryzen mobile CPUs, when Intel and its chips was practically the de facto processor for gamers. For that matter, the Core i9-11900H CPU in this machine is refreshing, given the general lack of 11th generation Tiger Lake-powered laptops in our list. Of course, with its steep RM11499 price tag, somewhat identical design, solid design and hardware, the M16 essentially gives fans of the ASUS brand what I personally believe to be a unique scenario: a choice between a laptop powered by Intel’s Tiger Lake or AMD’s AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile series.

Much like the G15, the ROG Zephyrus M16 is an awesome laptop on paper, but still somewhat skewed in real-life in a couple of ways that you should be aware of before deciding on it. As long as the price is competitive in your region, though, this is worth considering over the G15 for the awesome 16:10 QHD+ screen, the excellent performance across the board, the improved thermals, and the small other extras. However, keep in mind that the battery life takes a hit here from the G15, the thermal module blows the hot air straight into the screen, and that you'll end up paying a premium for this M16 over the AMD model launched earlier in the year.

Asus has done a good job keeping the M16 competitive in the realm of performance. Still, many of the issues we had with the previous model remain — namely, the battery life and how audible it can get when under load. The M16 would be easier to recommend if not for the existence of the updated G15, which we have yet to test but will likely top our list of gaming laptops based on how well prior versions of it have performed. If you need a laptop for a variety of creative applications, the M16 would be the wiser investment. However, if you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, the Ryzen-equipped 2021 model of the G15 with an RTX 3070 is available for $1,849.99 and an RTX 3080 for $2,199.99, making it a better value purely for gaming.

The exceptional 16:10 display and the, well, existence of a webcam are great additions — and they make the M16 more pragmatic as a primary work driver than other gaming laptops in its class. The addition of Thunderbolt and Intel-specific features like Quick Sync will be icing on the cake for creative professionals who won’t be able to find those benefits in an AMD system. However, the M16 is still a Zephyrus. It’s not intended to be a primary work driver or for coffee-shop creatives; it is, first and foremost, a gaming laptop. And it’s too expensive for its performance. It provides a weaker GPU, worse battery life, and a significantly worse battery-gaming experience than comparably priced AMD systems. You’re paying for this webcam and incredible screen not only with extra money but also with frame rates. That doesn’t mean there’s no audience for the M16. The screen, the upgraded ports, and the webcam aren’t trivial bonuses.

Let’s start with our summary with the more obvious stuff. First of all, the design looks stunning. The laptop is decently built and has good input devices. Its battery can last for 13 hours of Web browsing, and 8 hours of video playback. Of course, if you add a heavy-duty load, the juice will drain as soon as a lake with a cracked dam. Other honorable mentions here must be the 6*2W speaker setup. Nevertheless, there is one thing that you must know at the end of the day. Its battery can last for 13 hours of Web browsing, and 8 hours of video playback. Of course, if you add a heavy-duty load, the juice will drain as soon as a lake with a cracked dam. Other honorable mentions here must be the 6*2W speaker setup. Nevertheless, there is one thing that you must know at the end of the day.
