Il Samsung X520 è un netbook di qualità discreta ma dotato di un design molto particolare e affascinante. Le specifiche non colpiscono in modo particolare, processore a basso consumo, RAM discreta, hard disk sufficientemente capiente, webcam, ma niente modem e niente masterizzatore. Da evidenziare solo l’ingresso HDMI, lo slot di memoria e il display LED.

After last week’s Asus UL50Vg, there’s now another option if you're after a relatively thin and light laptop with a large screen and, potentially, excellent battery life. Indeed, Samsung’s 15.6in X520 has more or less the same specifications as the Asus, including Intel's Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) processor. With the X520, Samsung has created a competent but never outstanding laptop and while it’s not a bad buy, at this size there are better options available.

Despite its low-powered processor, the X520 is perfectly adequate for undemanding users who aren't going to be doing much more than surfing the Internet, word processing and a bit of image-editing. And with good battery life and a decent keyboard, the X520 has got plenty going for it. On the downside, it's fairly expensive at £649. However, with Samsung releasing laptops like there's no tomorrow, its models tend to fall in price only a few months after they're released.

Decent performance and comfort, but its not the most portable CULV laptop Samsung's X-series is made up entirely of machines powered by Intel CULV processors. The X520 is the largest laptop in the X-Series, making it one of the least portable, but its size makes it very comfortable to use and performance also proved to be good. The Samsung X520 offers a good mix of power and comfort, with portability slightly lacking. If you want a machine to accompany you on the daily commute, you should probably look elsewhere, but if you're not put off by its size or weight, this is a great option.

With its good, albeit not nine-hour, battery life and a rather enticing design, the X520 certainly has its plus points. And despite some unnecessary design imperfections, such as the springy numeric keypad and thin trackpad buttons, it’s a decent choice for mobile workers. Alternatively, if you’re willing to shave an inch off the display, the X420 will save you around £50.

To stand out, it has a dual-core processor and build in DVD burner. Samsung have come up with a successful model in the slim, light, good battery life laptop department. You get close to 5 hours video play. Although the X520 gives limited performance, it’ll be enough for office docs, internet and a bit of photo work and video.

Samsung è un produttore internazionale di notebook di medie dimensioni stando ai dati di mercato ed alle recensioni.

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Il core grafico dell'Intel GL40 e della GS40 sfrutta una GMA 4500MHD con un clock inferiore (400 contro 533 MHz). A causa della velocità inferiore del core, non c'è un supporto completo Blu-Ray Logo e le prestazioni di gioco sono leggermente inferiori.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.

Intel Core 2 Solo:

SU3500: Processore single core ad efficienza energetica per piccoli subnotebooks che si basa sul core Penryn ed include tutte le (come Virtualizzazione, C6 state, ...). Le prestazioni dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad un Athlon II Neo K125 da 1.7 GHz.

Intel Pentium Dual Core: Un ritorno del nome Pentium, sebbene sia un core Yonah. In fatti, è un processore dual Core con un ottimo rapporto prestazioni consumi.

SU4100: Processore dual core di fascia bassa per subnotebooks sottili e leggeri. A causa del nome Pentium, la CPU potrebbe avere meno funzioni di risparmio energetico rispetto ai processori Core 2 Duo.

15.6: La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

Questo portatile è più leggero rispetto alla media di tutti i notebooks. Ma è troppo pesante per essere un sub-notebooks.
