Some laptops are used as a travelling companion while others are more suited for providing your computing needs in the home. Falling into the latter category is the Asus K50IN. The Asus K50IN was rather like the curate’s egg.  Some parts were good but others left me with a feeling of disappointment.  This is not a laptop you would want to take on your travels but it will cope with home-based needs.  Pricing is expected to be in the region of £526.

It is clear from our testing today that Dell really did their homework before building the Inspiron 13z and they have taken feedback from the community and addressed a number of issues which are generally problems within the smaller sized laptop market. Firstly they opted for the faster Ultra Low Voltage processors instead of the ATOM and while these don't synthetically benchmark exceptionally high the real world conditions show massive improvements in responsiveness and overall usability.

ASUS for years offered two-year warranty period, but in case of K50 series, it is “limited global hardware warranty” that depends on country where you made a purchase. Nevertheless, this is one attractively designed, quality build notebook with just few compromises made because of final retail price. If this model suites your needs perfectly, we are sure that you will find price also very acceptable.

This budget-friendly 15-inch notebook offers a slick design and good performance, but it’s a little overpriced. The ASUS K50 was a pleasure to use. It offered zippy performance speeds in comparison to similarly priced notebooks, a comfortable keyboard, and lengthy battery life. At $699, though, the K50 is currently $100 more expensive than comparable systems such as the Gateway NV5807u. While the latter system may have shorter battery life, this factor hardly outweighs the price differential. Still, for someone who needs a notebook for writing papers, surfing the Web, and watching movies, the K50 is a solid choice.

Asus K50IN proves they've mastered the art of the all-rounder. The Asus K50IN is a large, widescreen laptop that is one of the most comfortable machines we've tried, although as a result it is also one of the least portable. Nevertheless, its moderately powerful processor and dedicated graphics card should ably cater for most of your study needs. The Asus K50IN is a great laptop that provides good usability via the spacious keyboard and screen. It's not the most powerful or portable machine, but if it suits your requirements, don't let this put you off.

NVIDIA GeForce G 102M: La Nvidia GeForce G 102M è una scheda integrata (onboard) per portatili con memoria grafica dedicata. Al posto della memoria GDDR, possono essere usati moduli DDR2 o DDR3. Pertanto le prestazioni si attestano sopra la Geforce G 105M. Il core della G102 M si basa su quello della 9400M G. 

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.

15.6": La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

2.66 kg: Questo peso è medio per i notebooks. Di conseguenza la numerosità di portatili con schermo da 14-15 pollici è condizionata proprio dal peso.
