Toshiba NB Netbook, Episode 2. As the 8.9 inch sized NB 100 has recently been in our test lab, now Toshiba's second netbook coup, the NB 200, is already on the test-bench. This time, however, with a 10.1 inch display for an improved overview. The question, if the Toshiba NB200 can even be considered to be the NB 100's heir, as the implemented hardware of both models by and large are conform, or if it's simply a refresh of the NB 100 with a larger display and altered look, remains to be seen.

If there’s one conclusion that I can come up with for the NB200 it’s this — this netbook is the one to buy if you like a small, cheap computer without looking like you bought a small cheap computer. Performance is not too shabby either, especially the keyboard. While battery issues can be solved by buying the extended battery, I’d have preferred it if Toshiba had just put in a better set of speakers into the netbook as I often use mine for watching movies while on the go. However those are really minor niggles, especially when you consider that you get a pretty high quality and nice-looking notebook for RM1,699.

The company has shown that portable, value computing does not mean that you need to compromise on looks and desirability. The Satin Brown NB200-10Z that we tested is superbly designed with a great exterior and interior colour scheme. We love the fact that the lid is not a fingerprint magnet unlike so many other netbooks with their glossy lids.

After spending some time with the NB205 it’s clear that this is a prime candidate for the hot netbook of the month. Toshiba got a lot right with this, including the design, the input devices, the size, and even the price. Of course there are some minor stumbles with the battery, performance, and sound, plus it’s not the lightest model out there, but it’s still a competitive machine. It’s probably not the best netbook on the market, but it’s not one to cross off your list without trying out, especially if you need the battery life. Note: The model we tested and photographed was the NB205-N312BL. There are other models in the NB200 series, not all of which have the same keyboard. This is a major selling point so users should be careful, especially if a model is $349 instead of $399. Laptop Mag has a photo and breakdown.

EN→IT Archive.org versionToshiba can't be blamed for the lack of evolution in the netbook platform, however infuriating it might be. Until someone deigns progress necessary (or nVidia ION systems begin to hit the shelves) all any company can do is make the best product possible under the limitations created by Microsoft and Intel. Toshiba has done just that with its second netbook, the NB200. Though it's bound by common restrictions, Toshiba has managed to add one or two unique features of its own and delivers in the all the right areas. There's no shortage of good netbooks these days, but the NB200 is definitely one of the best.

Most netbooks have surprisingly firm keyboards, so we're more than a little disappointed that the keyboard on the NB205 practically "bounces" while you type on it.

We admire Toshiba for finding a design hook, hanging itself off it, and resolutely staying there no matter how loudly the world shouts: the look of the NB200 we recieved is best summed up as 'diagonal stripes and plastic'. If you can find the black version we'd say the NB200 is a fantastic choice poking its head out above a busy crowd. Steer clear of the silver one, though.

The Toshiba NB200 is a solid all-around netbook that can be a good traveling companion. The lack of a built-in optical drive does not affect the usage of the system. Even with just the b/g wireless device, I am able to connect to all home and work networks with ease. Using the standard resolution the screen offers good clear viewing during browsing, office works and media playback. Surprisingly the speakers are clear for a small foot print notebook. I am further pleased by Windows 7 Ultimate performance on this comp. There is no shortage in system resources when switching between tasks.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation è un conglomerato o gruppo tecnologico giapponese. L'azienda è stata fondata nel 1939 e nel 1978 Toshiba è diventata il nome ufficiale dell'azienda. I prodotti e i servizi dell'azienda includono energia, sistemi di infrastrutture industriali e sociali, ascensori e scale mobili, componenti elettronici, semiconduttori, dischi rigidi, stampanti, batterie, illuminazione, logistica e tecnologia dell'informazione. Toshiba è stato uno dei maggiori produttori di personal computer, elettronica di consumo, elettrodomestici e apparecchiature mediche.
Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Il nuovo core di grafica Intel® GMA 950 è un motore grafico intelligente e dai tempi di risposta rapidi integrato nel chipset presente sulla scheda madre. Non propriamente adatta per giocare.

Intel Atom:
La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).
N270: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M.
N280: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M. Rispetto alla N270, la N280 ha un clock minimamente superiore ed offre un maggiore FSB.
