With decent processing power, the ability to let you indulge in a bit of gaming and a solid design, the R780 is great value at £799. However, Samsung's curious decision to go with a 32-bit operating system and the laptop's woefully short battery life can't be ignored. Some folk won't be too concerned about either, though, and this is otherwise a very impressive laptop at an equally impressive price.

Samsung's R780 is a budget desktop replacement laptop that offers good performance and is solidly engineered. The NP-R780-JSIBUK version we reviewed offers good value for money. It's bundled with excellent specifications, but battery life is criminally low and it lacks a full HD screen. There are a couple of configurations to choose from, but you can't upgrade the screen to a higher resolution. However, the R780 remains a commendable, if not exceptional, budget desktop replacement as long as you don't expect to stay away from a power socket for too long.

Samsung has once again captured a powerful mixture of performance and value in the R780. Its Blu-ray drive might be wasted on the sub-Full HD display and rotten speakers, but for general computing tasks its shines and delivers decent gaming performance to boot.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: La Nvidia GeForce GT 330M è il successore della GT 230M e stando alle informazioni trapelate una GT 240M con un clock superiore (ma dovrebbe ancora mantenere la potenza della GT 230M come suggerisce il nome).

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

430M: Il Core i5-430M è una CPU dual core di media classe che sfrutta solo 3 MB di L3 Cache (rispetto alla I7-640M) ed ha un clock tra 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Inoltre, nella 430M mancano VT-d, trusted Execution e funzioni AES. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere gestiti 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (Intel HD Graphics da 500-733 MHz) ed un controller memoria DDR3.
