MSI GT680: uragano di potenza

L’MSI GT680 è un portatile, o sarebbe più corretto dire un desktop replacement, che non poteva non colpirci favorevolmente: un design sicuramente soggetto al gusto personale, ma fortemente caratterizzato ed aggressivo, una realizzazione curata nei particolari, materiali di buona qualità, un audio più curato della media, molto importante in prodotti come questo che si rivolgono principalmente a un pubblico consumer interessato all’intrattenimento, e ovviamente una piattaforma hardware che non teme rivali nel panorama attuale e anzi si segnala come forse la più potente attualmente disponibile sul mercato. L’MSI GT680 ci è sembrato quindi un prodotto davvero ben riuscito e privo di punti deboli significativi, al contrario invece dotato di tutto ciò che serve in ambito consumer, col surplus di un’autonomia non straordinaria ma sicuramente da primato per un notebook di questo tipo.

My impressions about the MSI GT680R are very positive. With the exception of the monitor, the rest of the laptop makes for an almost perfect gaming laptop: good performance, good cooling, good sound, good battery… But the gaming laptop market is very competitive and other brands offer more extras, such as backlit keyboard, 3D screen, or more performance … We need to know the price to judge if it’s competitive enough and if it can deliver that extra performance it promises (MSI Iberia has promised us a commercial unit for evaluation when they are available). In the meantime, keep an eye on it.

MSI are selling three models of this machine right now on Scan, and the one we received was the top of the pile, featuring 8GB of ram, a Bluray drive and an Intel SSD configured as the boot drive. You can check out the configurations over here. We would have loved an option for an orange backlit keyboard as it really would have improved the overall appearance.

MSI’s GT680R does have its advantages. The sound quality is superb, and the connectivity options – as well as their placement – are superior to the competition. But these advantages do not justify the higher price. The story might be different if MSI built this laptop with higher quality materials, and it might be different if the touchpad wasn’t a mess. As it stands, however, the MSI GT680R costs too much for what it offers.

The $1,499 MSI GT680R-008US is a powerful mid-size gaming rig that offers lots of performance in a fairly portable design. We wish that MSI made different choices when it came to keyboard design and speaker placement, but otherwise this system is a big improvement over the last generation. For those who prefer Alienware's design, an M17x with the same CPU and GPU, but with 4GB RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a 1600 x 900 display will set you back $1,574. But if you want a full HD screen and a full terabyte of storage for a better price, the GT680 is a very good value.

I want to unreservedly recommend the MSI GT680-055AU, but for all the good stuff it has inside, the outside simply doesn’t match up. The build quality and glossy surfaces detract from what would otherwise be a stellar product. Many will buy it for the specs alone, but just as many will opt for a similar specced notebook with the looks to match.

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
