While it's a bit thick and heavy for a 15-inch laptop, the $1,299 Lenovo ThinkPad T520 offers business users everything they need: good performance, durability, and security. Of course, you also get Lenovo's trademark fantastic keyboard and accurate pointing stick. Add in wide viewing angles for the matte screen and extra-long battery life and you have a sound investment.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T520 is a strong all around laptop. Its strong chassis and durable design will ensure it survives the rigors of campus. The things to like about this notebook are almost too numerous to list; the legendary ThinkPad keyboard lives on and continues to be the gold standard. The touchpad and pointing stick are excellent as well and offer great feedback. The 1600×900 screen has good image quality and plenty of space (resolution) for multitasking. Overall performance is fantastic for everyday use. The standard 6-cell battery yielded about 7 hours of battery life, on par with Lenovo’s estimates. Lastly, the T520 has plenty of input/output ports including a docking station port. The list of things I don’t like is pretty short; the speakers are terrible and it’s rather heavy/large. To address the last issue, Lenovo offers the smaller 14” T420. Overall I highly recommend the T520, it’s hard to beat – especially if you get it on sale like we did!

Budget dictates it isn’t the best-equipped machine on the inside, but it can be upgraded to be, and its reliability and design make it an attractive alternative to the excellent Sony VAIO S.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" dalla leggenda inglese, novo (latino) per nuovo) è stata fondata nel 1984 come società cinese di commercio di computer. Nel 2004, l'azienda era il più grande produttore di laptop in Cina e, dopo aver acquisito la divisione PC di IBM nel 2005, il quarto più grande al mondo. Oltre a desktop e notebook, l'azienda produce monitor, proiettori, server, ecc. ed è specializzata nello sviluppo, produzione e commercializzazione di elettronica di consumo, personal computer, software, soluzioni aziendali e servizi correlati.

Nel 2016, l'azienda si è classificata al primo posto al mondo nelle vendite di computer. Lo deteneva ancora nel 2023 con una quota di mercato globale di circa il 23%. Importanti linee di prodotti sono Thinkpad, Legion e Ideapad.

Nel 2011 ha acquisito una partecipazione di maggioranza in Medion AG, un produttore europeo di hardware per computer. Nel 2014 è stata acquistata Motorola Mobility, che ha dato a Lenovo una spinta nel mercato degli smartphone.

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

NVIDIA NVS 4200M: Scheda grafica business basata sulla GeForce GT 520M con BIOS e drivers specifici per applicazioni business. La velocità clock tuttavia può essere teoricamente leggermente superata dalla 520M, nel Latitude 6420 tuttavia siamo al livello della GT 520M.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).

2410M: Processore dual-core basato sulla architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) e la GPU da 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).

Intel Core i3:

2310M: Processore dual-core basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.1 GHz e sfrutta il Turbo Boost 2.0 solo per la scheda grafica (650/1100MHz).
