Huawei ha fatto un gran passo in avanti con questo Mate 10 Pro che ci è piaciuto veramente molto. Molti sono stati i cambiamenti e l’introduzione dell’Unità di Processo Neurale porterà sicuramente sul lungo periodo dei notevoli benefici. Unici nei la mancanza del jack audio e la memoria non espandibile, ma parliamoci chiaro: il jack audio probabilmente tenderà davvero a scomparire e 128GB di memoria sono per il 99% degli utenti più che sufficienti. Design curato, prestazioni e autonomia al top e una fantastica modalità desktop che non richiede nessuna dock station. Non vediamo l’ora di mettere le mani sul prossimo smartphone della serie P sperando che erediti il più possibile da questo Mate, l’appuntamento dovrebbe essere fissato per il prossimo Mobile World Congress di Barcellona a fine Febbraio.

Cartello tra i produttori top per i prezzi dei loro top. 849 euro per questo Mate 10pro. Che sia a livello dei top di gamma non ci piove, con punte di eccellenza su batteria e camera. Un filo sotto sul design del software e sui video ma il vero dubbio è sul fatto che il brand Huawei sia già abbastanza maturo per potersi permettere un prezzo così alto. Intendiamoci, l'utente informato, davanti alla scelta S8 o Mate 10 non si fa condizionare troppo dal brand e sceglie quello che più si avvicina ai suoi gusti. Ma l'utente qualunque? Vabbè, pippe filosofiche. Se scegliesse Mate 10 pro sarebbe comunque soddisfatto! Anzi, su alcuni aspetti forse anche di più. Però dovrà ciucciarsi un adattatore per usare le cuffie!

Being a bit more expensive than the Mate 10, the Pro variant offers a few additions and discards a few too. It still sports an amazing chipset, an amazing camera, and a modified EMUI 8.0. I’d only recommend the Mate 10 Pro over the base model if you prefer a better display in exchange for the lack of a dedicated audio jack. Still, with these changes, the Mate 10 Pro is still on our Top 5.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy the Mate 10 Pro. Now it is time to round up this review. I think it is safe to say that what we have here is one of the best Android phones on the market. That statement does come with some provisos though. Huawei do need to fix the two major bugs that I have encountered and then this phone would be near perfect. They also need to do a bit more work on the EMUI Desktop interface as it is not quite up there with the offerings of Samsung in the form of DEX. I think it is fair to compare this against the likes of the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 in terms of the performance and usability, and if you are looking for a phone that is a tad cheaper than the Note 8 then this is a very good option. If however you feel that that the S-Pen is something that would be beneficial to you then it would be worth checking the Note 8 out. For me though, I don’t need the S-Pen and I love the dual camera setup on this phone so that is where my money would be going.

On a final thought, last week at GTC Europe, NVIDIA's keynote mentioned an understated yet interesting feature where using AI could help improve it. Ray tracing, to provide realistic scene interpretation over polygon modeling, is usually a very computationally intensive task, however the benefit is an extreme payoff in visual fidelity. What NVIDIA showed was AI assisted ray-tracing: predicting the colors of nearby pixels based on the information already computed and then updating as more computation was performed. While true ray-tracing for interactive video (and video games) might still be a far-away wish, AI-assisted ray tracing looked like an obvious way to accelerate the problem. Could this be something applied to smartphones? If there is dedicated AI hardware, such as the NPU, it could be a good fit to enable better user experiences.
