HTC si concentra sulle prestazioni piuttosto che sulle innovazioni stilistiche. Una cosa strana per l’azienda che in passato ha sempre catturato l’attenzione degli utenti per innovazioni importanti sul design. Di fatto HTC U12+ è uno smartphone che lavora in maniera impeccabile in ogni tipo di situazione e in ogni momento della giornata. Non si rinnova esteticamente se non con la presenza di un display allungato ma non borderless. Bello da vedere ed utilizzare soprattutto nella visione dei contenuti multimediali.

HTC U12+ è un buon telefono e abbiamo ritrovato in lui molte delle cose che apprezziamo di HTC, come per esempio il software e l'ottima fotocamera (ora con quattro sensori!). I passi in avanti rispetto al modello precedente ci sono, ma poi non così tanti (e compensati da qualche passo indietro). Qualche aggiornamento software potrebbe comunque sistemare alcuni difetti di gioventù.

Costa 799 euro, prezzo standard per i top di gamma HTC ma, quest’anno, visto che gli altri top di gamma costano di più, è tra i top più economici al lancio. Peccato che in Italia gli HTC non si trovano più se non online. Però nell’uso mi è piaciuto proprio tanto. Velocissimo, ottima camera, ottima parte telefonica. Purtroppo autonomia da una giornata, display non all’altezza e funzioni edge sulle quali hanno puntato molto ma non così utili nella quotidianità. Brutto esperimento i tasti laterali “finti”. non hanno il feedback che ci si aspetta. Ciò detto è un telefono che va davvero bene nell’uso di tutti i giorni. Bello! Translucent blue secondo me sarà ancora più bello!

HTC’s display provides accurate colors and supports HDR content which is great. Unfortunately the U12+ relies a good deal on squeeze and pressure sensitive features which can be a turn off for some. Those buttons are hard to adapt to. Its stand out those is the camera which takes superb detailed images and doesn’t go overboard with colors saturation.

I came into 2018 excited for HTC, but the U12+ just killed it all for me. As good as the camera and specs might be, and as much as I like looking at and holding this phone, it’s just not that fun to use. HTC screwed up buttons, which is something I’m not sure I expected to say…ever. Their Edge Sense technology is mostly a mess, battery life on this phone is not good at all, and I’m really worried that HTC has given up on updating their phones regularly. Couple all of that with the fact that its an $800 investment and you should probably pass on this one.

My recommendation: It’s a good flagship glass slab worthy of consideration if you don’t want a 3.5” audio jack (HTC says you want better sound from the USB-C port and supplied dongle) or wireless charging. Its Edge Sense may tip the scales in its favour.

After the latest deal with Google on personnel, the next flagship out from HTC is the U12+, succeeding the squeeze-focused U11 and U11+ from 2017. For this generation HTC will only launch a single model called the U12+, rather than a U12 now and another one later, with the company citing that it felt too many of its enthusiast users would wait for the plus model, so instead they have decided to just go with a singular unit with the upgraded name. The headlines on the U12+ include a quad camera design, an upgraded Edge Sense detection system, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, an IP68 ingress rating, and an upgraded BoomSound experience. La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata.
