HP has done well with the TouchSmart TM2 tablet. It's a good compromise between usability and exceptional battery life, even if its performance could have been better.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThere are surely some things we'd change about the HP TouchSmart tm2 – we'd remove the battery bump, slim down the entire chassis, put in a normal touchpad, and speed up the Touchsmart software – but for an $899 starting price and now with its Core i3 upgrade, it's actually one of the better convertible laptops for students or just those that just want to reach out and touch a screen. Of course, slate-like tablets are the new thing, and some will opt to pick up an iPad and then a cheap laptop to get their computing fill, but there's still something appealing about having an all-in-one device that can do it all. We really just wish the touch interface did its thing a bit more briskly.

With an aluminium casing and all-rounder configuration, it has been designed to handle a variety of tasks: photo, video, design, office work. HP’s TouchSmart tm2 is a nice, well put together machine. We like its battery life, performance levels and the touchscreen which is pleasant to use. Overall the finish and usage is a success. It’s just a shame that it isn’t lighter, slimmer and quieter.

EN→IT Archive.org versionEven if the iPad didn’t exist, we wouldn’t recommend the HP TouchSmart tm2. Its touchpad is one of the worst we’ve used. But the fact that Apple’s slate is now available to the masses makes this convertible an even tougher sell. Consumers who know better will no longer tolerate a tablet that doesn’t change screen orientation automatically based on how you’re holding the device, and they’ll scratch their heads wondering why it takes so long for TouchSmart’s apps to load when there’s a Core i3 processor under the hood. And although we give HP credit for trying to build on top of Windows 7, the OS simply can’t compete with the iPad when it comes to touch-enabled apps. We still like the idea of a tablet with a full-size keyboard--and see the merit of stylus-based input for some--but this product disappoints.

It is a great student laptop in many ways: it offers an easy way to take class notes via the pen input, battery life is very good, the design is attractive and the aluminum construction makes it durable yet not too heavy to be portable. The main drawbacks to the tm2t is that it uses a low voltage processor, so it’s not the fastest PC out there, and some of the software drivers such as the touchpad and touchscreen are buggy and could do with some tweaking out of the box.

Here in the UK at least, the only easily available, sub-£1,000 options for a convertible tablet are the Packard Bell Butterfly Touch and Acer Aspire 1825 – and of course HP's TouchSmart tm2, which we're looking at today.

Unless you're dead set on owning a swivelling, convertible machine, we'd recommend you opt for a more powerful laptop, such as the cheap, 17.3-inch Samsung R730, which will better serve your media needs. On the other hand, if you're sure you want a tablet, the tm2-1010ea probably isn't what you're looking for, because it's fairly heavy and the touchscreen interface is slightly too clunky.

EN→IT Archive.org versionYes I know it’s been a long time since I have reviewed any HP PC’s but once a company changes agencies it often takes a long time to get involved again. It is a little ‘curates egg’ like and I think you would definitely want to try it before you buy as the back heavy nature of the unit could be a problem for some, it has to back heavy to accommodate the twist screen action of it. The final drawback is the price.

Performance is solid thanks to the new Core i3 ultra-low voltage processor and it has a surprisingly larger hard drive. It isn't without its faults though including a touchscreen that is very glossy that can be difficult to see in certain light and a battery pack that adds a bit too much bulk.

HP: Fondata nel 1939, l'azienda statunitense è un importante produttore di server e stampanti e una delle aziende IT leader a livello mondiale. Fino al 2015, la società si chiamava Hewlett-Packard Company. Dopo una scissione, la divisione computer è stata ribattezzata HP Inc.
Nel 2023, HP deteneva una quota di mercato approssimativa del 22% delle vendite globali di PC, diventando così il numero 2 dopo Lenovo.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550: La HD 4550 è una HD 4530 con un clock superiore e pertanto si inserisce nella fascia bassa. E' stata sostituita dalla HD 5430 con lo stesso clock rate.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450: Una scheda grafica base che gestisce DirectX 11 con una velocità clock simile (come le prestazioni) alla HD 4570 ma con un consumo di energia inferiore.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
SU7300: Processore dual core con clock lento e con un basso TDP da 10 Watt.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: Un ritorno del nome Pentium, sebbene sia un core Yonah. In fatti, è un processore dual Core con un ottimo rapporto prestazioni consumi.
SU4100: Processore dual core di fascia bassa per subnotebooks sottili e leggeri. A causa del nome Pentium, la CPU potrebbe avere meno funzioni di risparmio energetico rispetto ai processori Core 2 Duo.
Intel Pentium:
U5400: CPU dual core di fascia bassa della serie Arrandale. Non supporta il Turbo Boost (per la CPU), l'Hyperthreading, la Virtualizzazione e l'AES. A causa della bassa velocità clock, le prestazioni sono sufficienti solo per le applicazioni meno pesanti.
Intel Core i3:
330UM: Il Core i3-330UM un processore energeticamente efficiente con voltaggio ultra low senza Turbo Boost e funzioni AES per portatili. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono comprese una scheda grafica integrata (Intel HD Graphics da 166-500 MHz) ed un controller di memoria DDR3-800.
380UM: Il Core i3-380UM è un processore ultra low voltage a risparmio energetico per portatili senza Turbo Boost e funzioni AES (rispetto alle CPUs i5 ed i7 UM). Grazie all'Hyperthreading, 4 threads possono essere processati simultaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono incluse anche una scheda grafica integrata (Intel HD Graphics da 166-500 MHz) ed un controller di memoria DDR3-800.
