The Dell Latitude 2110 is a robust and attractive netbook. However, we suspect the touchscreen will be of limited usefulness and many of the more practical features in our review unit don't actually come as standard and cost more on top of the already high price. Unless you must have a rugged netbook, there are better value alternatives available. We'd also consider waiting for the upcoming next generation of netbooks based on dual-core Atom processors which should be faster.

Dell’s Latitude 2110 is a standard-looking netbook computer with a rather odd case – it’s covered with a rubbery material that Dell says makes it easier to wipe spills from, although the laptop itself is not actually waterproof. The touch-sensitive screen means the Latitude 2110’s price is just a bit too high.

Dell’s Latitude 2110 is a standard-looking netbook computer with a rather odd case – it’s covered with a rubbery material that Dell says makes it easier to wipe spills from, although the laptop itself is not actually waterproof. The processor is an Intel Atom N470 and it comes with 1GB of memory (cheaper models are available with less powerful processors). The touch-sensitive screen means the Latitude 2110’s price is just a bit too high.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N470: CPU Atom per Netbooks con controller di memoria e GPU GMA 3150. Le prestazioni della CPU dovrebbero essere paragonabili ad un Atom Z450 da 1.86 GHz e superiori all'N450 di circa il 5-10%.
