Dell has selected a decent Core i5 specification allied to Radeon HD 5470 graphics, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 15.6-inch screen with HD resolution. That's all perfectly acceptable and we were smitten by the good looks of the Inspiron 15R, but the layout left something to be desired and the price was a touch too steep for our taste.

Dell's Inspiron laptops have always been the brand's middle-of-the-road workhorse: equally likely to turn up in a dorm room or coffee shop as at your mom's kitchen table. Dell periodically gives the series a physical makeover, but small differences in fit and finish are almost beside the point; this is still the go-to laptop line for reasonably priced systems that offer mainstream performance at palatable prices.Dell's updated Inspiron line has a slightly revamped design, but more importantly still offers workhorse performance for a minimal investment.

The Inspiron 15R is a product which is entering a hugely competitive market segment with a massive amount of systems available that offer various levels of performance, features and quality. This means that Dell really need to impress from the moment someone sees the system and in our opinion they have succeeded in this area. The 15R looks a level above other midrange laptops thanks to the reflective brushed finish, inside and out.

Dell's Inspiron 15R N5010 is a 15in notebook with an appealing design and a well rounded configuration. Plenty of RAM and hard drive space make the Dell Inspiron 15R N5010 a good option for anyone who wants a notebook that can also be used as a desktop replacement computer. However, its build quality could be better, as we noticed some annoying creaking in its base, and its screen suffered from shimmering when viewed from certain angles.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330: La ATI Mobilty Radeon HD 4330 della AMD è una scheda grafica DirectX 10.1 per portatili di fascia bassa. Tecnicamente è una Mobility HD 4530 con un clock inferiore.
Le prestazioni di gioco della ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 si collocano sotto la HD 4350. I giochi datati DirectX 9 dovrebbero essere utilizzabili con dettagli medi. Le prestazioni potrebbero non bastare per giochi pesanti come GTA 4 o Crysis.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
