Recensione iPad Pro 12,9: il confine sottile tra tablet e notebook...ma che prezzo!

Probabilmente solo alcune tipologie di professionisti, come ad esempio gli illustratori e i grafici, troveranno molto pratico e più produttivo lavorare in mobilità con iPad Pro (che di fatto può essere considerata una tavoletta grafica che integra un sistema operativo completo) rispetto a qualsiasi altro strumento offerto oggi dal mercato. Ma per altri potrebbe rivelarsi difficile e complesso affidarsi esclusivamente ad uno strumento di questo tipo, soprattutto se si deve aver a che fare con una dotazione pre-esistente (sia hardware, sia software) impostata sul tradizionale modello d'utilizzo di desktop e notebook. Insomma iPad Pro, per quanto ci riguarda, rimane un tablet, sicuramente peculiare e ad anni luce di distanza da altre proposte sul mercato. Ma il cammino per insidiare il terreno dei notebook ha bisogno di ancora qualche passo.

iPad Pro (2018) è un tablet (al massimo con tastiera) e non un PC. Ma se torniamo alla domanda più importante “questo iPad può fare per voi quello che può fare un PC?” è possibile che la risposta per sempre più persone sia “si”. In più abilita una flessibilità tutta nuova a professionalità sempre diverse. Prima gli illustratori, poi chi lavora sempre in mobilità con chat/mail/documenti, poi i fotografi che devono fare download e modifiche al volo e dal prossimo anno anche gli utenti Photoshop. Capite bene che le potenzialità per questo super tablet sono infinite. Alcune però non sono ancora sbloccate e altre (come la lettura di chiavette) chissà se lo sarà mai. iPad Pro è il tablet perfetto. Sarebbe stata una recensione facilissima se non avessimo tirato in ballo il prezzo.

Difficile dare un giudizio a questo Pro. Perfetto per usi molto specifici e verticali (gli darei un 10), dove anche il prezzo non è un grosso problema, inutilmente potente e caro per un uso generalista (dove prenderebbe un 6, penalizzato dal prezzo). Lato PC sono riuscito a fare tante più cose con il macBook air (che ho appena provato qui) pur costando meno ed essendo meno potente. Lato Tablet continuo a sostenere che l'iPad liscio 2018 sia il miglior compromesso in circolazione tra prestazioni, software e prezzo (anche se la nuova penna purtroppo non è supportata dai vecchi iPad).

Il principale ostacolo per utilizzarlo come sostituto di un laptop, secondo me, non è rappresentato dall'hardware ma dal software. Se su iPhone non ci sono particolari limitazioni, ad iOS mancano a mio avviso alcune funzionalità essenziali di un sistema operativo desktop, tra queste, ad esempio, la capacità di gestire facilmente file esterni, la possibilità di usare un mouse e le versioni desktop tradizionali della maggior parte applicazioni che sono spesso molto più essenziali e limitate. Con un iPad, comunque, riusciamo bene o male, a fare quello che facciamo solitamente con un notebook ma le limitazioni della piattaforma operativa richiedono spesso più tempo del necessario o ragionamenti inutili su come affrontare un problema che su un computer potremo risolvere in un istante. In parole povere, bisogna adattarsi, non viceversa. E fino a quando sarà così in molti continueranno a preferire un notebook.

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
