Piccolo, portatile ed efficiente, l’Acer Aspire One D250 è la versione migliorata del D150, presentata pochi mesi prima. La differenza maggiore sta nel processore leggermente più performante e nelle dimensioni di poco inferiori. Per il resto, non cambia nulla, design pressoché identico, connettività UMTS con tecnologia HSDPA, lettore di schede di memoria 5 in 1, tecnologia Bluetooth, autonomia estesa con batteria a 6 celle.

Installing a second operating system on a PC is nothing new. Plenty of manufacturers have done so before, building a slimline Linux distro into their machines to provide a much more rapid start-up than Windows can manage: full access to the internet within seconds of pressing on power key. This is a nice netbook, and having a quick-boot alternative to Windows is nice to have. But it's far from essential and neither is it a full OS. The true Android netbook, it ain't.

Judged on its own, the Aspire One is a decent netbook, with a great screen, and with a 6-cell battery as standard, it offers reasonable battery life. However, Android proves to be a somewhat disappointing experience, while Windows 7 feels a tad sluggish, leaving this as an interesting machine but not one we'd rush to recommend.

The first time we laid our hands on Acer's Aspire One D250, we were quietly impressed. A slimline netbook with some nice design touches, it was only the stiff competition that left it floundering. Now, however, the D250 can lay claim to one feat none of its competitors can. Not only does it have Windows 7 Starter Edition installed, it's also the first Android netbook.
Google's Android OS provides a disappointing distraction from an otherwise average netbook.

Netbook sales have helped catapult Acer to second place in PC shipments worldwide, according to IDC. And the Aspire One AOD250 is easily one of Acer's best selling netbooks to date. It's hardly the ideal netbook, though, as plenty of others have caused it to lose some momentum by promising—and delivering—bigger keyboards, larger screens, and a bevy of other features. Well, this little netbook is about to push back. Despite booting both XP and Android in one netbook, the Acer Aspire One AOD250 (Android) falls short in terms of features and design.

The latest model in the Aspire One netbook line is fairly nondescript. The D250-1613 has the same 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, plus 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a tiny keyboard, and a microscopic multitouch pad. With its cookie-cutter netbook design, it fits into the crowd somewhere between the Fujitsu LifeBook M2010 and, say, the Lenovo S10. Acer adds a second OS to its Aspire One D250 without adding to the price--but that still doesn't feel like enough.

Acer: Nel 1976, l'azienda è stata fondata a Taiwan con il nome Multitech e nel 1987 è stata ribattezzata Acer o Acer Group. La gamma di prodotti comprende, ad esempio, laptop, tablet, smartphone, desktop, monitor, TV e periferiche per computer. Dal 2007, il gruppo si è fuso con Gateway Inc. e Packard Bell, che commercializzano anche le proprie linee di prodotti per laptop.

I computer Acer sono progettati per una varietà di scopi, inclusi ultrabook per uso mobile, laptop da gioco per giocatori, opzioni convenienti per le attività quotidiane e laptop convertibili 2 in 1 per la versatilità. Il portafoglio di prodotti Acer comprende anche tablet che offrono capacità informatiche portatili e multimediali.

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Il nuovo core di grafica Intel® GMA 950 è un motore grafico intelligente e dai tempi di risposta rapidi integrato nel chipset presente sulla scheda madre. Non propriamente adatta per giocare.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N270: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M.

N280: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M. Rispetto alla N270, la N280 ha un clock minimamente superiore ed offre un maggiore FSB.
