The Lenovo ThinkPad L512 offers some cool perks over the average notebook. It has one of the highest percentages of post- consumer plastic and a new environmentally friendly packaging. That said, it would have been nice to see the same things applied to one of the upper ThinkPad models instead of the SL-series from which the L-series is built. Being eco-friendly and offering high performance would be a big draw for a lot of consumers and companies as long as the price is right. While it's great that Lenovo has managed to increase their use of eco-friendly materials without significantly increasing the price, the more important goal might be applying the new philosophy to their entire lineup.

An inexpensive alternative to the ThinkPad T series, the L412 has more than enough power for students or workers who are looking for the comfort and reliability of a Lenovo system, but desire something more economical. While we wish its battery life was a bit longer, the L412 has plenty of power for everyday office or classroom tasks, and its security and durability is on a par with more expensive systems. For less than $900, the L412 delivers plenty of value.

The Lenovo ThinkPad L420 is an above-average offering in the value business notebook segment. It succeeds in barely enough areas to get our recommendation, however. Highlights first: very good build quality, an excellent keyboard and touchpad, a good selection of input/output ports, and good overall performance. Now for the downsides; the first is battery life. Four and a half hours is average at best; ideally we were looking for another hour. Secondly, the 1366x768 screen resolution is too low for office productivity and makes multitasking difficult. Lastly, the $969 asking price is a bit high; Lenovo should either knock $100 off the price or include at least a two-year warranty standard. In the end, the Lenovo ThinkPad L420 is a very well-built machine and meets most of our expectations.

The $898 ThinkPad L420 falls somewhere between the high-powered T series and the more small-business focused Edge lineup. As such, it borrows the security features and docking capability of the former line, but the more affordable pricing of the latter. Regardless, this laptop's great keyboard, snappy performance, and reasonable price make it a compelling option for professionals who aren't willing sacrifice quality. We wish the sound quality were better, but if a solid typing experience, good performance, and a budget-friendly price are what you're after, the ThinkPad L420 fits the bill.

Lenovo produce desktops, laptops, servers, computers palmari, strumenti per la grafica, e telefoni cellulari. Lenovo fornisce anche servizi per l'integrazione dell'information technology e servizi di supporto, e la sua QDI unit offre contratti di produzione. Le sue sedi esecutive sono in Cina e Stati Uniti. Ma la sede effettiva è ad Hong Kong. Lenovo è nata nel 1984 come spin-off dell'unità di Scienza delle nuove tecnologi dell'accademia Cinese. L'azienda ha iniziato come rivenditore e distributore, solo in un secondo momento come produttore per marchi esteri, come IBM, che sono entrati nel mercato cinese. Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:

Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).

La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: Il core grafico dell'Intel GL40 e della GS40 sfrutta una GMA 4500MHD con un clock inferiore (400 contro 533 MHz). A causa della velocità inferiore del core, non c'è un supporto completo Blu-Ray Logo e le prestazioni di gioco sono leggermente inferiori.

Intel Core i3:

330M: La Core i3-330M è una 350M con un clock inferiore e di conseguenza manca della feature Turbo Boost ed ha un clock con un massimo di 2.13 GHz. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono inclusi anche una scheda grafica integrata (GMA HD 3150) ed un controller di memoria DDR3.

Intel Core i5:

2520M: Processore Dual-core basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.

P8700: Processore dual core di classe media con 3 MB di level 3 cache ed un TDP da 25 Watt.

14.0: I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.

14.1: I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.

15.6: La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

Questo portatile è più leggero rispetto alla media di tutti i notebooks. Ma è troppo pesante per essere un sub-notebooks. 
 13 pollici sono la norma per questa categoria di peso.

Questo peso è medio per i notebooks. Di conseguenza la numerosità di portatili con schermo da 14-15 pollici è condizionata proprio dal peso.
